Lawn mowing in Hillside

Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Hillside lawn
- Name your council when you ask about the strip. Your rates notice says Melton or Brimbank.
- Give the street, not just the suburb. Hillside was built over two decades.
- If the block slopes, tell the mower which way the water runs off it.
Hillside lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Hillside?+
About $100-$145 for a 180 m² lawn. Bids come off the aerial measurement of your own lawn, and a fortnightly round through spring is priced under a one-off catch-up on grass that has got away.
Which council is Hillside in?+
Both the City of Melton and the City of Brimbank, depending on the street - your rates notice settles it. Either way the strip is yours: Melton says it does not mow or water strips at all, and Brimbank relies on residents to mow and maintain theirs.
Is my Hillside lawn still new turf, or an established one?+
Established, almost everywhere. Hillside was built out through the 1990s and 2000s, so even the newest streets are past the first two summers when instant turf on the plain's clay wants a 60-70 mm cut. A lawn re-laid in the last two years is the exception - say so when you list.
About Hillside
Hillside's lawns have rooted into the clay and survived a decade of summers, and they take a fortnightly round through spring without much trouble. The suburb went up over a longer stretch than a single-stage estate, so the streets are not uniform and the street name tells a mower more than the suburb does.
The grass is the plain's kikuyu and couch across 8.1 square kilometres, 24 km north-west of Melbourne. Banchory Grove with its Woolworths is the local shopping strip, and Watergardens over in Taylors Lakes, with 197 shops, is the big one. Sydenham-Hillside and Parkwood Green state primaries and Cana Catholic primary, which opened in 2004, are the schools.
Two councils meet here: the City of Melton and the City of Brimbank, depending on the street. Both leave the nature strip with the resident, and Melton states it most plainly - it does not mow or water strips at all. The bins differ too: Melton's green-lid FOGO bin takes garden waste fortnightly at no extra charge, while Brimbank's food-and-garden bin is opt-in with an annual fee.
