It is the most treed side of the city, on sedimentary soils that drain well, and shade and leaf drop shape most mowing visits.

City of Boroondara	Boroondara does not mow, water or spray nature strips; the community expectation is that residents mow the strip outside their property, and the council maintains the street trees. The FOGO bin (dark green, lime-green lid) takes lawn clippings, leaves, weeds and branches up to 75 mm and has been collected weekly since 4 May 2020; the standard 120 L bin is covered by the waste levy on rates.	12 Sep 2026
City of Maroondah	Maroondah owns the nature strip and residents must keep it tidy; it cannot be changed without council approval, and where a planting is approved the ongoing upkeep is the owner's. Food and garden waste goes in the lime-green-lid FOGO bin, collected fortnightly on the alternate week to recycling.	12 Sep 2026
City of Whitehorse	Whitehorse owns the nature strip and says it is common practice for residents to maintain the lawn on it by regular mowing, weeding and picking up litter; the council plants and maintains the street trees. A grassed strip needs no permit, any other planting does. The lime-green-lid FOGO bin is opt-in and charged as a supplementary bin, $75.00 for 140 L or $99.50 for 240 L a year in 2026-27, and is emptied fortnightly on the week recycling is not.	12 Sep 2026
Knox City Council	Knox plants and maintains the street trees; every other cost of keeping the nature strip is the resident's, and the council does not restore grass on strips. Plantings must stay under 500 mm for sightlines and no trees may be added. The green-lid food and garden bin is emptied weekly, rubbish fortnightly since 3 July 2023; a 240 L FOGO bin is inside the residential waste charge ($434.55 in 2025-26), a second one is $150.25 a year.	12 Sep 2026
Manningham Council	Manningham's Nature Strip Guide 2023 says the council does no renovation or proactive maintenance of nature strips and relies on the established community expectation that the owner or resident mows, weeds, picks up litter and levels the surface; it owns every tree on the strip for the life of the tree. Approved plantings stay under 500 mm (300 mm near intersections). The green-lid food and garden bin has been weekly since 3 July 2023, with garbage and recycling fortnightly on alternate weeks.	12 Sep 2026
Maroondah City Council	Maroondah owns the nature strip, the land between your boundary and the kerb, and residents must keep it tidy and cannot change it without council approval; where a planting is approved, the ongoing upkeep is the owner's. The council plants thousands of nature strip trees a year. Food and garden waste goes in the lime-green-lid FOGO bin, collected fortnightly on the alternate week to recycling; garbage is weekly.	12 Sep 2026
