CouncilNature strip and garden wasteChecked
Frankston City CouncilFrankston does not mow or spray where a nature strip adjoins a private property; the resident does the basic maintenance, mowing and sweeping, and pays for any planting. Street trees are the council's to plant, prune and remove, and residents may not touch them. The food and garden bin has a light-green lid, is emptied fortnightly on the opposite week to recycling, and takes grass clippings and nature-strip clippings, 70 kg limit; it is opt-in and the council did not publish the charge.12 Sep 2026
Mornington Peninsula ShireMornington Peninsula Shire puts the nature strip on the homeowner or tenant: regular mowing, edging, weeding and litter. The Shire maintains only the street trees it plants, a permit is needed for any landscaping or tree removal, and leaving items on the strip without a hard-waste booking is illegal. The food and green waste bin is a 240 L green lid, fortnightly on the opposite week to recycling, opt-in at $178 a year (2025-26), urban area only, 70 kg limit.12 Sep 2026
