Lawn mowing in Kingsbury

Kingsbury is small - 1.3 square kilometres, 3,500 people, named for Bruce Kingsbury VC - and mostly 1960s weatherboard and brick on blocks big enough that developers have been buying them for townhouses since the 2010s.

Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Kingsbury lawn

  • Original 1960s blocks: expect the quote to be at the top of the range because there is a lot of lawn. A fortnightly round brings the per-visit price down.
  • Townhouse courtyards: quick, cheap, and the nature strip out the front often matters more than the lawn.
  • Rentals near La Trobe: list as recurring and the first cut of long grass only happens once.

Kingsbury lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Kingsbury?+

On 180 m² of lawn the guide reads $100-$145 each time. An original Kingsbury block can have well over that and quotes higher; a townhouse courtyard quotes lower. Local mowers see the measured area before they put a number on it.

Is the nature strip mine to mow in Kingsbury?+

The resident. Darebin's local laws put nature-strip upkeep on the owner and occupier, with fines possible if it is neglected. Put it on the listing and it is included.

Do the creek-side streets mow differently in Kingsbury?+

A bit. Along Darebin Creek and the Kevin P Hardiman Reserve trail there is shade and leaf drop, so buffalo holds where couch thins and a higher cut suits it. Toward Plenty Road the lawns get full sun and couch and kikuyu do what they do across the north.

About Kingsbury

The original Kingsbury lawn is a big one: a 1960s house set back from the street with a full front lawn, a nature strip and a deep back yard, on the flat between Plenty Road and Darebin Creek. Where those blocks have been redeveloped, three or four townhouses share the site and each gets a courtyard the size of a car space. Both kinds list on Mowie, and they are different jobs - the first is a 45-minute mow and edge, the second is fifteen minutes plus the strip.

Darebin Creek and the Kevin P Hardiman Reserve trail run through the suburb, and Bundoora Park's 180 hectares is across the road, so there is leaf drop and shade on the creek side and more open sun toward Plenty Road. The grass is the north's kikuyu and couch on clay.

City of Darebin: nature-strip upkeep is on the resident. The 86 tram on Plenty Road and Reservoir station cover the transport, and La Trobe's campus on the boundary means a share of Kingsbury's houses are student rentals with lawns that go a long time between cuts.
