Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Heidelberg Heights lawn

  • The 80 m elevation is all that is written down; how each street lies is not, so the fall of the lawn, if there is one, has to come from you.
  • Give the gate width in centimetres, because under 70 cm the job is push mower only.
  • Some streets have a grass strip out the front and some have a planted one; the listing should say which, since a planted strip is not mown.

Heidelberg Heights lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Heidelberg Heights?+

For a 180 m² lawn, Heidelberg Heights guides $100-$145. Less grass than that and the bids drop below it; a block mown front and back pushes them over, because bids follow the measured lawn.

Who mows the strip in Heidelberg Heights?+

The resident, under Banyule's neat-and-tidy standard; the council's crews step in for hazards only. List the strip too and the mower prices it with the lawn.

My lawn is on the old Haig Street school site. Is it mown any differently?+

Only while it is young. Metricon's houses went onto 52 Haig Street after Banyule bought the closed school in 2012, and turf in its first two summers is left at 60-70 mm, with a cut never taking more than a third of its height. Older than that, it is mown like any other; say when the turf went down.

About Heidelberg Heights

What has been written about the place is mostly schools and post offices. A Heidelberg West primary opened in Haig Street in 1925; a Heidelberg Heights primary ran from 1960 to 1993, and Charles La Trobe College now occupies the former local primary school and the old Heidelberg Girls' high school. Banyule bought the closed Haig Street school at 52 Haig Street in 2012 and Metricon built houses on it, so one pocket of the suburb has houses no older than the 2010s. Next door, Heidelberg West was dairy land until the Housing Commission resumed it in the early 1950s for the 1956 Olympic Village, with the Bell Street drive-in shopping centre opening the same year.

Beyond the elevation, the histories give local shops and neighbourhood reserves, a football club in the Northern Football League, and no named park, creek or soil; they do not date the older streets either, so the page stops there and the listing takes over: how the ground behaves after a wet week, whether the lawn falls, how wide the gate is. Banyule is the council; it expects a neat and tidy strip from the household and cuts one itself only as a hazard, and its weekly food and garden pick-up dates back to 4 July 2022.
