Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Reservoir lawn
- Say whether there is a unit behind you and who owns which lawn. It saves the mower a phone call.
- Reservoir's older weatherboards often have a low picket fence with the nature strip outside it. List the strip if you want it done.
- Buffalo lawns in the shadier streets near the lake do better cut at 50 mm or higher; scalping them exposes the runners.
Reservoir lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Reservoir?+
Between $100 and $145 for a standard visit on a typical 180 m² Reservoir lawn, going by our guide. Small unit lawns are less; a full front-and-back block more. Access moves the number more than anything else here.
Whose job is the nature strip in Reservoir?+
The owner's and the resident's. Darebin's local laws make property upkeep including the nature strip the resident's responsibility, and the council can fine for neglect. Most mowers do it in the same visit.
Can I get a regular mow for a rental in Reservoir?+
Yes. List it as recurring and the mower keeps it on a round. It is the cheapest way to keep a rental lawn presentable between tenants.
About Reservoir
Reservoir's housing is post-war brick and weatherboard on regular blocks, a lot of them now with a second dwelling out the back. The front lawns are small and the back lawns vary from a full rectangle to a strip beside a new unit. The grass is the north's usual - kikuyu, couch, some buffalo - on basalt clay. What separates a quick job from a slow one here is access: a driveway shared with a rear unit, a side path narrowed by a water tank, a gate that was widened for a car and not for a mower.
The suburb is flat with a couple of low rises toward the reservoirs, so it is push-mower country. Streets backing onto Edwardes Lake Park - 34 acres, dating from 1914 - and the creek trails get more leaf litter and shade; the streets around Broadway and Edwardes Street are more open. Four stations - Reservoir, Regent, Keon Park, Ruthven - and the 86 and 11 trams mean a lot of people here do not drive, and a mower who can park is worth having.
City of Darebin puts nature-strip upkeep on the property owner and resident, with fines possible under the local law if it is let go. It is the most common add-on in Reservoir listings.
