Lawn mowing in Bonbeach
Bonbeach lies between Chelsea and Carrum, with the Patterson River, an artificial channel dug in 1879 to drain the Carrum Swamp, as its southern boundary. The post office opened on 19 November 1922 and the station in 1926, the last of the run from Aspendale to Carrum.

Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Bonbeach lawn
- If the lawn is on the beach side and dries out, ask for a taller cut from December and no more than a third off at once.
- Backing onto the country club course or the river? Say so, and whether the boundary is fenced.
- Front, back or both, and how the mower reaches it: that is the whole listing for a Bonbeach block.
Bonbeach lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Bonbeach?+
$105-$150 per mow is the Bonbeach guide at 180 m². What you are quoted follows the area on your own aerial, so a small lawn comes in under it.
Does Kingston water or mow the nature strip in Bonbeach?+
Not unless the strip is a hazard. Kingston leaves the mowing, watering and general maintenance of the strip to the resident and helps with hazards. It prunes the strip trees every second year. Put the strip in the listing to have both done together.
Is the ground in Bonbeach sand?+
At the coast, yes: the whole shoreline is sandy beach, and the 1958 schools went up on land called the Sand Pits. The suburb runs back to the Patterson River channel that drained the swamp in 1879. What your own block is on is another question; a lawn on sand needs a higher cut and deep watering in summer, and one that holds water needs a dry day.
About Bonbeach
A count in 1927 found 12 holiday houses and 7 permanent ones in Williams Grove, and Point Nepean Road and Broadway roughly half and half. The golf links beside the river were laid out in 1926, got a club house in 1933 and passed to the Patterson River Country Club in the 1950s; the course still runs along the river. The surf life saving club opened in 1932. State primary and high schools opened in 1958 on land called the Sand Pits, and the primary continues after the high school closed in 1989. Bonbeach sports reserve holds five ovals. Population was 4,725 in 2001 and 5,733 in 2011.
The entire coastline is sandy beach facing Port Phillip, and the schools' land was named for sand pits. The river along the southern edge is the channel that drained the Carrum Swamp. The station was rebuilt in 2021, and the suburb is 2.8 square kilometres. What is under your own lawn, and whether it dries out in February or sits wet in July, is worth telling the mower.
Under Kingston the resident mows and waters the nature strip and keeps it in general order; the council's contribution is a prune of the strip trees every two years and help with anything hazardous. Those trees are council property. Plantings are limited to 0.5 metres high and must sit half a metre from the kerb. Clippings have a bin, the green-lid one, collected every other week alternating with recycling, on garbage day, as a standard service.
