Lawn mowing in Warranwood

Warranwood is an elevated suburb where the headwaters of Andersons Creek and Jumping Creek rise and run north to the Yarra. The land was not particularly good for orchards and was grazed or left as woodland, and housing subdivisions quickened in the early 1990s.

Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Warranwood lawn

  • If the low end of the block is soft, the mower needs to know; the headwaters of Andersons and Jumping creeks rise here and the ground drains toward them.
  • A settled lawn is cut at the height it is used to and a new one is cut higher, so the year the lawn went in matters.
  • The FOGO bin is fortnightly; decide whether the clippings are binned, mulched in or go with the mower.

Warranwood lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Warranwood?+

Warranwood's guide, $100-$145, is priced on a 180 m² lawn. The bid a mower places is built from the lawn traced on your own aerial, and a block with a sloping back lawn tends to land at the upper end.

Is the nature strip mine to keep in Warranwood?+

Yes, though Maroondah owns it. Residents keep the strip between the boundary and the kerb tidy and cannot change it without approval; an approved planting is the owner's to maintain, and the council puts thousands of trees on strips each year. Include the strip in your listing and the same visit covers both.

Why does drainage matter on a Warranwood block?+

Because the suburb is where two creeks begin. Andersons and Jumping creeks rise on this elevated ground and run north to the Yarra, so say whether a low corner of your block stays wet after the rest has dried. Tell the mower which end is low; a day's wait after rain keeps the turf from rutting.

About Warranwood

The district was Croydon Heights until the South Warrandyte Progress Association went looking for a name in 1946. Mrs J. Harrison of Brysons Road proposed Warranwood, joining Warrandyte South and Ringwood North, and the postal authorities and the Shire of Lillydale accepted it. A general store had opened in 1940 near Warranwood and Brysons roads and another on Warranwood Road in 1946. The Melbourne Rudolf Steiner School opened on Wonga Road in 1972. Warrandyte South primary on Hall Road was replaced by Warranwood Primary on Wellington Park Drive in 1996, and a large Anglican church of 1998 serves Ringwood North, Croydon Hills and Warranwood. The count went from 4,327 in 2001 to 4,791 in 2011.

The ground is about 128 m up, and the headwaters of two creeks rise on it and run north to the Yarra. Warrandyte lies to the north and Ringwood to the south. Grazing and woodland, not orchards, were the land's history, and housing subdivisions quickened in the early 1990s, so say when your house went up. Which way any street falls is not something a page can tell you. Whether the lawn is level or on a slope, whether the back of the block runs down toward a gully, and what any trees nearby drop onto the grass, all belong on the listing.

The nature strip is Maroondah's, being the ground from your boundary to the kerb, and the household keeps it tidy. No change goes ahead without council approval, and an approved planting carries its own upkeep for the owner. Strip trees go in by the thousand each year. Maroondah's FOGO bin, the one with the lime-green lid, is fortnightly and garbage weekly, so a spring cut can wait two weeks for a bin.
