About Keilor East
Keilor itself was settled from 1850 and the cemetery dates from 1857. A quarry worked the west bank of Steele Creek from the 1940s to the 1970s, and the Valley Lake development now sits in the old pit. The post office opened on 1 July 1947, was renamed Niddrie in 1956, and a new Keilor East office opened in November 1957. Keilor Heights primary opened in 1963 and the high school in 1969; a 1988 merger produced Rosehill Park primary, and Essendon Keilor College ran from 1993 to 2025. Milleara Mall is one of three shopping centres, with Dinah Parade and Centreway.
The Maribyrnong River is the western boundary, the Calder Freeway the northern, Hoffmans Road the eastern; Buckley Street, Steele Creek and Rosehill Road close the south. Steele Creek and Taylors Creek cross the suburb. The river's horseshoe bends hold Brimbank Park, a metropolitan park since 1974, steep treeless land with cypress and pine planted in pastoral days. Elevation is 66 m. The airport flight path passes over.
The Albion Viaduct, on the Victorian Heritage Register, is the council line: Brimbank to the west, Moonee Valley to the east. Brimbank leaves strips to residents to mow, weed and keep clear, with hazards prioritised once reported; its garden bin is fortnightly and opt-in, $103.30 a year for 140 L, until a mandatory weekly bin from 1 July 2027.
