Lawn mowing in Keilor Park

Keilor Park was named and bounded in the 1960s, when the Keilor municipality's rapid expansion turned farmland between the airport and the Calder into a suburb that is residential in the east and industrial in the west. The Keilor name itself is probably from Keillor, a Scottish farm owned by the father of settler James Watson.

Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Keilor Park lawn

  • Say which side of the recreation reserve you are on and the nearest cross street. The industrial west is not where the mower is heading.
  • A creek-side block: tell the mower what the boundary is and whether the bank is yours to cut.
  • The old police hut and St Augustine's date the district, not the lawns; say when yours went down if it is newer than the house.

Keilor Park lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Keilor Park?+

Per mow, the Keilor Park guide for 180 m² comes out as $100-$145. Each bid is priced from the outline you trace when you list, so a 1960s block with a big back lawn runs over the guide and a unit runs under.

Does the council mow the nature strip in Keilor Park?+

No. Brimbank's own program mows about 1,117 sites and 1,253 ha in peak growth, but residential strips are not on it. The household mows and weeds the strip and keeps it hazard-free, and the tree is planted and pruned by the council. List the strip and the mower does both in one go.

Where are the lawns in Keilor Park?+

On the eastern side. The suburb is residential in the east and industrial in the west, laid out that way in the 1960s; the lawns are on the streets around the recreation reserve and Steele Creek, and that is the side a quote is for. Give your nearest cross street so the trip is clear.

About Keilor Park

The housing side is the eastern part, and it dates from the 1960s onward, so the lawns are of an age with the streets: half a century and more of the same grass on most blocks, with the odd relaid front. The state primary opened about 1973 and closed in 2008, which dates the run of building. The industrial west is not what this page is about. What matters for a listing is how a lawn that old has worn, where the path across it is compacted, what is under the clothesline, and whether a fence throws shade for half the day.

Steele Creek is the eastern edge, and the Keilor Park recreation reserve, nearly a square kilometre of soccer, tennis, basketball and athletics, has the Keilor Botanic Gardens where the creek crosses it. The Maribyrnong River is the western boundary, Melbourne Airport and Tullamarine are north and the Calder Highway south, with the Western Ring Road on the eastern side. The old Keilor Police Hut stands at 152 Harrick Road, moved there about 2015, and St Augustine's Catholic church has stood since 1863. The suburb sits at 74 m. A block near the creek may behave differently from one up on the flat, so name which you have.

Keilor Park is in the City of Brimbank. Council land, resident's mowing: Brimbank keeps the strip and the tree on it, prunes the tree, and expects the household to mow it, weed it and keep it clear of anything that could trip someone; granitic sand, sleepers and synthetic turf may not go on it. Rates cover rubbish and recycling only; the food and garden bin is ordered separately, fortnightly, on a 12-month minimum, and becomes part of the standard service from 1 July 2027.
