Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Pascoe Vale South lawn

  • Measure the side access. Push mower only under 70 cm; 95 cm and over takes wide gear.
  • Slope toward Moonee Ponds Creek? Photograph it so the bid allows for the fall.
  • The weekly lime-green bin takes the clippings; say if you would rather have them mulched in.

Pascoe Vale South lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Pascoe Vale South?+

By the model a 180 m² Pascoe Vale South lawn costs $105-$150 every visit. The mower's bid follows your own lot's aerial measurement, and an older block with a long back lawn can measure past that.

Does Merri-bek mow nature strips in Pascoe Vale South?+

It does not. Residents mow, weed and edge the strip outside their place and pick up what lands on it, and council only acts once a strip is a hazard, its guideline being a strip surface that is more than 50 mm above or below the kerb. Clippings blown into the road or drain are a littering offence.

My lawn is on the creek side. Does the slope matter?+

Yes, if it is steep enough that a mower cannot run across it. A lawn on the creek boundary that falls away is cut across the slope, takes longer and is priced for it. A photo from the top of the slope tells the mower what to bring.

About Pascoe Vale South

The land lay inside John Pascoe Fawkner's Pascoeville, farm-subdivided from 1840 and cut into land-boom blocks in the 1880s, but the growth waited for the tram. The First World War left street names, Gallipoli, Heliopolis, Balmoral, Princes and Royal, and prefabricated houses went up in Gallipoli Parade and Heliopolis Street in 1948. A Methodist church opened in Cumberland Road in 1939 and the primary school in 1954. Wentworth House and Lyndhurst Hall at 46 Walhalla Street are both on the Victorian Heritage Register.

Moonee Ponds Creek is the western boundary, with Strathmore across it and the Tullamarine Freeway alongside; Coburg lies east, Brunswick West south and Pascoe Vale north, from O'Hea Street to Moreland Road. The shops are at Bell Street and Melville Road, tram 58 runs from the Bell Street terminus to the city and Pascoe Vale station is the nearest. A lot on the creek side may slope toward the creek. How the lawn sits, and whether the back is reached by a side path or straight through the house, are the two things to add.

The strip outside a Pascoe Vale South house is not council's to mow. Merri-bek leaves the strip in front of a private property to the resident, mowing, weeding, edging and litter included, and steps in only where a strip has become a hazard. Sweeping the clippings into the gutter counts as littering under its rules. Garden and food waste share the lime-green-lid organics bin, weekly on the regular collection day, 120 L or 240 L, charged on the rates; rubbish is due to go fortnightly from July 2027 with the organics bin staying weekly.
