Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Brunswick West lawn

  • Flats with a shared front lawn: say who is listing it, the owners' corporation or one resident, and where the mower parks.
  • Bungalow side paths are the tight spot. Less than 70 cm at the gate means a push mower.
  • The lime-green bin, weekly, takes clippings; blowing them off the strip into the road is littering here.

Brunswick West lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Brunswick West?+

The model's $110-$160 assumes 180 m² of lawn. A bungalow block's front and back together may measure less on the aerial; the bid comes from the measurement of your own block.

What does Merri-bek want from a Brunswick West nature strip?+

Kept mown, weeded and edged by the resident, litter picked up, and the surface within about 40 mm of the kerb and footpath level; a strip more than 50 mm off is a hazard council may act on. The street trees are council's, planted and kept through its tree program. Do not blow the clippings into the road; that is littering under its rules.

Do the linear parks along the creek affect a lawn?+

Only for the blocks on that edge. Some of the creek parks here are on the far side of the Tullamarine Freeway, so most lawns in the suburb are ordinary street lots with no reserve behind them. If yours does back onto a park, say what the fence is and whether leaf blows in.

About Brunswick West

The Whitby homestead of about 1850 on Whitby Street is on the Australian and Victorian heritage registers, and the first primary school of 1888 stood west of Hoffman's brickyard. The Hopetoun Estate of 1892 in the north-west did not sell. The Moonee Vale area was settled under the State Closer Settlement Scheme in 1902 with about 200 residents and cut into the present allotments in the 1940s and early 1950s. The post office opened on 10 March 1913, the Melville Road tram opened between 1925 and 1927 with shops along it from 1926, and the schools came in a run: Catholic primary 1911, Brunswick North 1925, Brunswick South West 1927, Brunswick North West 1929.

A front patch, a back yard down a side path, or a shared strip in front of a block of flats: name which. Linear parks run along Moonee Ponds Creek, some of them reached only by crossing the Tullamarine Freeway, and the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail and the Capital City Trail pass through. Dunstan Reserve has two ovals; Brunswick Central Parklands and two small reserves on an unused railway reservation are the rest. Shops are on Grantham Street and Melville Road, with Union Square on Grantham Street, and tram 58 runs down Melville Road.

Nature strips in Merri-bek are not council-maintained where they front private property; weeding, mowing, edging and litter fall to the resident, and council acts only on a hazard, measured in its guidelines as more than 50 mm off the kerb or footpath. Clippings blown or swept into the road or a drain are littering. The organics bin, lime-green lid, takes food and garden waste weekly on the normal collection day, in the 120 L standard bin or a 240 L, and is charged through the rates; rubbish is set to become fortnightly from July 2027 while the organics bin stays weekly.
