Lawn mowing in Oakleigh South

The original land was rises and swampy depressions, dense tea tree in the low parts and bracken on the open ground, ridden over by the Melbourne Hunt Club from 1887 to 1929. Golf took over the hunt country, and housing came after the war, growing along Warrigal Road in the 1950s.

Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Oakleigh South lawn

  • A Kingston green bin is fortnightly and a Monash one weekly, so the council you pay decides where a spring cut's clippings go.
  • If the lawn goes brown after a few dry days, say so; the mower can set the cut higher rather than scalp it.
  • Beside a golf course boundary or one of the reserves, note what drops over the fence and whether the rear lawn is flat.

Oakleigh South lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Oakleigh South?+

$105-$155 is the model's range for a 180 m² Oakleigh South lawn per cut. It is a guide, not a quote; the mowers price your own block from its aerial measurement.

Whose job is the nature strip in Oakleigh South?+

Yours, whichever council you are in. Kingston has the resident mow and water the strip and assists only with hazards; Monash leaves it with the owner or occupier and follows up a reported strip. Both councils own the strip trees and both do their own pruning.

Why does my Oakleigh South lawn dry out so fast?+

It may be the ground. The land was rises and swampy depressions before the golf courses and the 1950s houses, and there were sand quarries near Centre Road. If yours is on a sandy rise, a higher cut keeps it going through summer; say so when you list.

About Oakleigh South

The Metropolitan Golf Club laid out its course in 1908, Commonwealth followed about 1927 and Huntingdale took the hunt club's land about 1939, opening in 1941; the name Huntingdale, later applied to the northern locality, came from the club. A post office opened on 1 September 1936. Housing is a post-war occurrence: Huntingdale Primary in 1954, Oakleigh South Primary in 1958, Huntingdale High in 1960 and Clayton West Primary on Scotsburn Avenue in 1962 mark the estates. The Hoyts drive-in ran from 1955 to 1990, and sand quarries lay near Centre Road.

Whether your block is on one of those rises or in one of the old depressions is the thing to say, along with what the lawn does after rain. Parks are Mavis Hutter Reserve, Scammell Reserve, Dales Park, Talbot Park and Davies Reserve, and the boundary runs from North Road to the Dingley Bypass, with Warrigal Road on the west and Huntingdale and Clarinda Roads on the east. Huntingdale station serves the suburb. Elevation is 58 m, and the shops are at the Warrigal and North Roads corner.

Oakleigh South straddles the City of Kingston and the City of Monash. Kingston makes the resident mow and water the strip, prunes the trees on it every second year, and mows a strip only once it is a hazard; its green-lid garden bin comes standard and goes out on garbage day every second week, opposite recycling. Monash leaves the strip's upkeep to the owner or occupier, prunes every street tree itself and has emptied its green-lid 240 L bin weekly since August 2022. Your rates notice says which applies.
