Lawn mowing in Officer
Officer was a siding named after pastoralist Robert Officer, whose land was cleared of vast amounts of timber for firewood by 1870, and it stayed a highway village looking out on grazing lands while Pakenham grew through the 1990s and 2000s.

Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Officer lawn
- Name the estate and the year the turf was rolled out. Timbertop and a Kaduna Park lot finished last month are not the same cut.
- Brick clay was dug here in the 1880s. That is the district, not your block; if your lawn stays wet through winter, say so.
- Cardinia's green bin costs extra. Without one, tell the mower whether clippings are mulched in or carried off.
Officer lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Officer?+
One visit to 180 m² of Officer lawn: $100-$145, going by our model. Your bid is priced off your own lot as the aerial measures it, so lawn front and back on an estate block can come in above that.
What does Cardinia want from my nature strip in Officer?+
Mowed, weeded, clear of rubbish, leaves, sticks and bark, level, tidy at the edges. You may change the grass without a permit while it stays below 300 mm; plantings must stay under 600 mm; the street trees are the arborists' alone. Put the strip on the listing and the mower takes it with the lawn.
How should a new estate lawn in Officer be cut?+
Left at 60-70 mm for its first two summers, then brought down gradually, never losing more than a third of its blade at a time. The estates only began in the late 2000s and the 4,000-lot one was due to finish in late 2019, so give the mower the year your turf was laid rather than the estate name alone.
About Officer
James Lecky settled the Gin Gin Bin run on Boon Wurrung country in 1846. Officer's Wood Siding became a station on the Gippsland line on 4 August 1881; clay bricks were made through the 1880s until the land boom collapsed, orchards were planted, the post office opened on 16 December 1885 and Officer's Siding State School the year after. The village had its hall, primary school and Uniting church in Tivendale Road, and the Berwick Potteries worked on the highway from 1968 to 2001. Only 280 people lived here in 1996.
Housing estates began in the late 2000s, moving west from Cardinia Road toward the village: Timbertop, Arcadia, Kaduna Park, Savannah, Officer Fields and Officer Central, with a 4,000-lot estate due for completion in late 2019. The count went from 1,417 in 2006 to 18,503 in 2021. Cardinia Road station opened in 2012, and the shire moved its offices from Pakenham into the planned Officer Town Centre on 17 November 2014; fifteen schools are listed for the suburb. Dragon Park was named Victoria's Favourite Playground in 2021. The land is about 127 m up. Most lawns here are estate turf, and when it was laid is the first thing for the listing, because turf younger than two summers is cut high while it roots.
Officer is Cardinia Shire. The nature strip is the shire's land, and the shire wants the resident to keep it mowed, weeded, level, tidy at the edges and free of rubbish, fallen leaves, sticks and tree bark. A permit is not needed to change the grass while it stays under 300 mm; nothing planted on the strip may exceed 600 mm, and the street trees are the arborists' to prune or remove. Cardinia's green-lid garden bin, which takes food waste too, is optional and fortnightly, charged at $108.70 (120 L) or $138.70 (240 L) a year in 2025-26, grass clippings accepted to 70 kg. The Princes Freeway will divide the urban Officer of the future.
