Lawn mowing in Albion
Albion was the eastern part of the Braybrook land taken up in 1848 for English settlers, and its streets carry English county and place names. It was Darlington from at least 1860 to about 1890, had a station called Albion and Darlington for under a year from 5 January 1860, and got its present station in 1919.

Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Albion lawn
- A McKay estate or war-service block often has a small front and the real lawn at the back; if so, it changes the price, so make it plain.
- The Sunshine Energy Park reserve is council grass. If your block adjoins it, say where your boundary runs.
- Wet August on basalt: better a visit put off a day than a rutted lawn, so say if yours sits wet.
Albion lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Albion?+
For 180 m² of Albion lawn the guide reads $100-$145, cut by cut. The mower's bid is priced from the traced outline of your lawn when you list, so a deep war-service block can price over it and a bungalow front under.
Who mows the strip outside an Albion house?+
The household. Brimbank owns the strip and plants and prunes its trees, but has no round for the grass; residents mow, weed and keep it clear of hazards. A reported strip is assessed and hazards go first. Put it on your listing; the mower cuts it with the front.
Is Albion on clay?+
Albion is basalt country; the quarry cut stone here from 1860 and the Albion Quarrying Company from 1885. What lies between the rock and your lawn differs block by block, so watch it through a season: water sitting in August and cracks in February point to clay, and a higher summer cut is the kindest thing for it.
About Albion
The oldest lawns belong to H.V. McKay's Sunshine Estate, built for the Harvester Works in the early 1900s with a layout that took something from the garden-city idea; those houses stand in the east, on Sydney Street and King Edward Avenue. California bungalows followed, then 1940s weatherboards and war-service homes on Sydney, Coolamon and Gunnedah Streets, with Albion Primary open by 1926 and St Theresa's by 1951. A lawn in front of a war-service home has been mown for eighty years. Its grass is whatever survived, and the fence line and the street tree have shaped where it grows thick.
Albion is situated in basalt country, and it was quarried: the Albion quarry opened in 1860 and cut stone for railway works from the turn of the century, and the Albion Quarrying Company dates from March 1885. The hole became the Sunshine tip, then Sunshine Energy Park, and is now a public reserve; the disused quarry was the set for AC/DC's Jailbreak video. Basalt country is the fact. What sits on top of it under your block, nobody has written down; if the lawn holds water in August and cracks in February, that goes on the listing. Kororoit Creek is the western border, with a trail and an octagonal park with a community centre at the creek.
Albion is Brimbank, which runs no mowing round for residential nature strips. The strip belongs to the council, and so does the tree, which the council prunes, but the grass is the household's by the council's own reliance on goodwill and established expectation, and an overgrown strip is assessed once someone reports it, hazards first. Garden waste has no bin unless you buy one: the bright-green-lid bin is opt-in and fortnightly, and only from 1 July 2027 does it come with the rates and go weekly.
