Lawn mowing in Braybrook
Braybrook was named in 1848 by three Melbourne residents who bought the land as a place for English people to live, and the village was surveyed in 1854 near Solomon's Ford on the Maribyrnong. Most of the houses are post-war: the Housing Commission built over 2,500 houses, flats and shops across Braybrook and Maidstone in the 1950s and 1960s.

Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Braybrook lawn
- Commission house with a rear unit added? Name whose lawn is whose before the quote.
- Blocks on the river side: say whether the back boundary is fenced and whether the mower can get to it from the street.
- The 240 L green bin takes a full cut of a 1950s front and back. If you want it kept free for prunings, ask for a mulching cut.
Braybrook lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Braybrook?+
Where there is 180 m² of Braybrook lawn, our model reckons $100-$145 each mow. Mowers price the block you trace, so a Commission block with grass at both ends and a strip lands inside the band and a townhouse lawn under it.
Do I get a green bin in Braybrook?+
Yes, at a house or a development of four units or fewer: the green-lid bin for food scraps and garden waste is included in Maribyrnong's rates, 240 L as standard, collected every second week, opposite the recycling. Larger unit developments are not yet on the service, so a mower there takes the clippings away.
Which Braybrook lawns are the newest?+
The ones on the former factory sites, remade as housing as the suburb shifted from primarily industrial to a mix of the two. A lawn on one of those is the youngest turf in Braybrook and, if it is inside its first two summers, should be cut at 60-70 mm; a Commission lawn from the 1950s takes the normal height for whatever grass has taken it over.
About Braybrook
Most of the lawns date from that Commission build, which followed the migrant hostels of the post-war years; a Commission lawn of the 1950s has been cut for seventy years. Newer than that are the former factory sites turned into housing; the suburb was primarily industrial and is now a mix of houses and light industry, so a post-war house and a townhouse on an old factory site can share a street. A turf that went down with a townhouse is the one to describe by age; the Commission lawn describes itself by what has grown into it.
The Maribyrnong River is the northern boundary and its trail runs along it. A railway reserve keeps a remnant of Western Basalt Plains grassland, which names the plain the suburb sits on. Braybrook Junction, where the 1889 Ballarat line met the Bendigo line, is Sunshine now; the 1859 Sunbury railway ran south of the village. The shops are on Churchill and Ashley Avenues, Central West Plaza among them, and the ETA Foods factory at 254 Ballarat Road is heritage-listed. Braybrook College grew from a high school that began in artillery barracks in 1960. Ground and drainage differ block by block; say what yours does after rain.
Maribyrnong council leaves the strip's grass to the household and keeps the tree: residents mow, weed, edge and clear the litter, and the council selects the street trees, plants them and looks after them; residents may neither plant nor remove one. A strip planted rather than grassed takes a free permit, with plants held under 80 cm. The green-lid bin for food scraps and garden waste is charged inside the rates at houses and at blocks of four units or fewer, 240 L as standard or 120 L on request, and goes out fortnightly on the week the recycling does not; five or more units on one title are not served yet.
