Lawn mowing in Cairnlea

Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Cairnlea lawn
- Reserve frontage isn't yours. Say where your grass stops so the quote covers the right area.
- Ask whether your mower can mulch. It suits a short summer cut on clay, but not a long spring one.
- On a corner or laneway block, name which sides you want done.
Cairnlea lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Cairnlea?+
$100-$145 for 180 m² of lawn. On a block that backs onto a reserve, say where your grass stops so the aerial measurement and the bid cover the right area, and add the nature strip if you want it done.
Who cuts the grass on the reserves?+
Brimbank does - its own mowing program covers 1,117 sites and 1,253 hectares at peak growth, right across the municipality. What is yours is the nature strip in front of your place, which the council relies on residents to keep down.
Should I water a Cairnlea lawn in summer?+
Deeply and rarely, rather than a little every evening. Shallow watering on clay keeps the roots at the surface, which is the opposite of what the lawn needs in February. The watering guide sets out the timing.
About Cairnlea
About 30 per cent of the suburb's 460 hectares was set aside as open space, including 35 hectares of grassland with restricted access to protect endangered species. So a lot of the green a household here looks at belongs to the council, and the first thing to settle with a mower is where your grass stops and the reserve starts. Jones Creek runs south-east through a linear parkland and bird habitat, with another reserve on Kororoit Creek in the south.
The houses went up inside a six-year window, so the lawns are a narrow band of ages: settled, and much of a muchness from street to street. They sit on the same western clay as everything around them, in an estate built with man-made lakes and a stormwater recycling system. The heritage-listed 1939 gunpowder mill still stands in Parkla Avenue.
Cairnlea is City of Brimbank. The council mows the reserves and parks it manages; the nature strip in front of the house is the householder's to mow, weed and keep clear, and the food-and-garden bin with the bright green lid is opt-in, with an annual fee. The primary school opened in 2009.
