Lawn mowing in Kingsville
Kingsville takes its name from subdivisions of that name released in 1907 along Geelong Road, between Williamstown Road and Roberts Street, on land Thomas Chirnside had bought in 1853 in the Parish of Cut Paw Paw. The district was settled around the First World War, with a post office on 1 January 1915 and a primary school in 1919.

Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Kingsville lawn
- The side gate on a house of this age wants measuring: anything under 70 cm limits the job to a push mower.
- Name the nearest boundary road. The triangle is small but the buses and stations are on its edges.
- If the lawn is two small patches, front and back, say so; two patches with a carry-through can take longer than one big lawn.
Kingsville lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Kingsville?+
On 180 m² the guide says $105-$150; a century-old Kingsville block may have less grass than that. The trace of your own lawn sets the bid, so a small front and a courtyard back land under it.
What are the nature strip rules in Kingsville?+
Maribyrnong's: the household mows, weeds, edges and clears litter; the council owns, plants and prunes the tree and no resident may plant or remove one. Grass needs no permit. A planted strip needs a free permit and plants under 80 cm. Put the strip on the listing and the mower takes it in with the front lawn.
Is Stony Creek in Kingsville?+
Just outside it. The linear park along Stony Creek and Corpus Christi primary both lie beyond the triangle's boundary, so a Kingsville lawn is a street lawn on low ground at about 24 m rather than a creek-bank block. What the ground under it does after rain is the useful thing to tell the mower.
About Kingsville
The suburb is a right-angled triangle of 0.7 square kilometres, Williamstown Road on the east, Somerville Road on the south and Geelong Road as the hypotenuse, between West Footscray and Yarraville. Kingsville once meant the whole of West Yarraville; the land south of Somerville Road became Yarraville, the north became West Footscray, South Kingsville kept the old name, and this piece stayed a locality of Footscray West until it was gazetted as a suburb in 1999. The houses that filled it around the First World War are a century old, and a lawn of that age has been shaped by a hundred years of fences and paths; say what grass is in it now.
The shopping strip is on Somerville Road with an Anglican church, and the primary school had 580 pupils in 2014. Corpus Christi Catholic primary and a linear park along Stony Creek lie just outside the boundary, so a creek-side block is the neighbouring suburb's. Buses 431, 223, 472, 411 and 412 run the boundary roads and the nearest stations are on the Sunbury and Werribee-Williamstown lines. At 24 m the ground is low; what your lawn does in a wet August is the thing to add.
Kingsville is Maribyrnong City Council. The strip is the household's to mow, weed, edge and keep free of litter; the council decides what tree goes on it, plants it and maintains it, and residents may not plant or take one out. Grass needs no permit, a planted strip needs a free one and stays under 80 cm. Garden waste and food scraps go in the green-lid bin, which the rates cover on a house or on a block of no more than four units, 240 L unless a 120 L is requested, emptied every second week opposite recycling; bigger unit buildings are still without it.
