Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Kings Park lawn

  • No station in Kings Park, so give the nearest cross street and which of Taylors Road or Main Road West is nearer. It sets the mower's route.
  • Backing onto the linear reserve or the creek? Say what the rear boundary is, fence or open grass, so the edging is quoted right.
  • A lawn from 1972 has probably been topped up and patched. Say what grass is in it if you know, and where it thins out.

Kings Park lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Kings Park?+

For 180 m² of grass the guide is $100-$145 each visit. The quote you get is for your block as traced from the air, so a 1970s block with grass at both ends and a strip can land at the top of that or a touch over.

Whose job is the nature strip in Kings Park?+

The resident's, in Brimbank's own words the goodwill and established expectation that you mow, weed and keep it hazard-free. The council's crews look after the tree on it, and the council will inspect a strip that has been reported. Put the strip in your listing and it gets cut with the lawn.

My block backs onto the creek reserve. Who mows the reserve?+

Not you. Brimbank runs a mowing program of about 1,117 sites and 1,253 ha in peak growth for its open space, and the residential strip is what it leaves to the household. Your grass stops at your boundary, so say where that line is when you list and the trace and the quote will match your lawn, not the park.

About Kings Park

The first houses went up in the north-east corner beside Kings Reserve in the early 1970s, and the second stage of 1972 had the rest of the streets laid within a year of the first. A lawn laid with either stage has been cut for more than fifty years, long settled, by whoever lived there. The reserve itself came earlier. Leslie King, a dairy farmer, gave it to the district in about 1962, and it carries football, cricket and lawn bowls on Gillespie Road today.

Kororoit Creek makes the western boundary, and a linear reserve follows a stream west across the suburb to meet it. Taylors Road closes the north, Kings Road the east and Main Road West the south. Two substantial reserves hold the ovals, the soccer and the community centres, and Kings Park Primary, Movelle Primary, Resurrection Catholic Primary of 1978 and Copperfield College's junior campus, the old Kings Park High, sit among the houses. The ground itself is not described anywhere. Whether a block beside the creek reserve holds water, and whether one away from it bakes, only the people on it know.

Brimbank is the council, and its position on the strip is that the land belongs to the council and the mowing is yours: no council round, only the goodwill and expectation that residents keep theirs cut and free of hazards. The council plants and prunes the street trees. The garden bin is not automatic. A food and garden bin, bright green lid, runs $103.30 a year in the 140 L size and $115.49 in the 240 L, emptied fortnightly, and moves to weekly collection with the four-bin rollout on 1 July 2027.
