Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Box Hill North lawn
- Kerrimuir is the eastern part; name it, or the nearest of the small reserves, so a mower can place you in a suburb 3 km by 2 km.
- A lawn on two levels: say how the mower gets from one to the other, steps or a ramp.
- Give the side gate width; 70 to 95 cm takes a standard mower, anything narrower only a push mower.
Box Hill North lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Box Hill North?+
Somewhere around $105-$155 a visit is what our model gives a 180 m² lawn in Box Hill North. The bid you get is built on the traced outline of your own block, not the model's lawn.
Does Whitehorse mow the nature strip in Box Hill North?+
Not as a matter of course. Whitehorse plants and prunes the street trees and leaves the grass to the resident, calling it common practice that residents mow it, weed it and pick up the litter. Grass needs no permit; list it and the mower cuts it on the same trip.
How old are the lawns in Box Hill North?+
Most of the houses went up after the Second World War, so a lawn laid with them has had seventy years of cutting. If yours was relaid when the house was rebuilt, say so; a lawn under two summers old wants a 60-70 mm cut, and only the top third of the leaf taken at once.
About Box Hill North
Arundel Wrighte's pastoral lease of 1838 was the first permanent European presence, and the Wesleyan Methodist chapel built of local stone at Woodhouse Grove in the 1850s is the oldest building standing. Kerrimuir post office opened on 1 April 1955 and Box Hill North's on 1 August; Box Hill North and Koonung Heights primaries had opened in 1954, Kerrimuir primary followed in 1959 and Koonung Heights secondary in 1965. The suburb is about 3 km by 2 km, bounded by Koonung Creek on the north, Elgar Road, Middleborough Road and Thames Street. The eastern part is Kerrimuir. Until about 2000 the suburb ran west to Union Road, the piece that became Mont Albert North.
Two creeks give the ground its shape. Koonung Creek is the northern boundary, with Elgar Park beside it carrying the ovals and the miniature railway, and the Koonung Creek Trail across the top. Bushy Creek has its own trail from Elgar Road and Belmore Road to Dorking Road and Wimmera Street, and Bushy Creek Park sits on it. The rest of the open ground is a run of small reserves: Memorial Park, Springfield Park, Tassell's Park, Frank Sedgman Reserve, Hagenauer Reserve, Halligan Park, Eram Park. Blocks near either creek are the ones to describe carefully when you list; say whether the back holds water after rain, and for how long.
Box Hill North is in the City of Whitehorse. The nature strip belongs to the council, and the council says it is common practice for the resident to keep the lawn on it mown and weeded and to pick up litter; the street trees are planted and maintained by Whitehorse, not by you. Keep the strip as grass and no permit is needed. There is no garden bin in the rates. A lime-green-lid FOGO bin is a supplementary service, $75.00 (140 L) or $99.50 (240 L) a year in 2026-27, emptied fortnightly in the week recycling is not.
