Lawn mowing in Blackburn North
Blackburn North had its start in the early 1960s, much of it built on land that had been an apple orchard. The North Blackburn post office had opened on 2 May 1955, and through the late 1960s and early 1970s the district went by the name Beverley Hills.

Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Blackburn North lawn
- If your block backs onto the Koonung Creek valley or the freeway reserve, say whether the rear boundary is a fence or open ground.
- No FOGO bin? Tick clippings taken away; Whitehorse's garden bin is opt-in and fortnightly.
- Run a tape across the side gate first. A gate narrower than 70 cm means a push mower; 95 cm or more lets the wide deck through.
Blackburn North lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Blackburn North?+
A 180 m² lawn in Blackburn North prices at $110-$155 a cut in our model. Mowers bid off the aerial outline of your block itself, so a lawn front and back comes in higher and a courtyard lower.
Do I mow the nature strip in Blackburn North?+
Whitehorse says yes in effect: it owns the strip but describes mowing, weeding and litter pick-up by residents as common practice, and it looks after the street trees itself. Add the strip to the listing and the mower does it in the one visit.
Is there anything to know about lawns near Koonung Creek?+
The creek and the Eastern Freeway run along a valley on the northern edge, with the trail beside them. That tells you where the valley floor is, not how your block drains; if the back lawn holds water after rain, put it in the listing.
About Blackburn North
Orchards and small farms were the background here, as in Blackburn. Residential growth ran on from Blackburn in the 1960s into the land between Springfield Road and Doncaster, and the schools mark the pace: a primary in 1954, Blackburn High in 1956, the technical school in 1959, Middlefield primary in 1962, Springview in 1964. Old Orchard Primary took the technical school site in the 1990s when Middlefield and Blackburn North primaries were joined, and its name says what the ground was. The suburb was City of Nunawading until 1994 and has never had a station; the shops are small strips on Raymond Street, Katrina Street and Diana Drive.
Koonung Creek and the Eastern Freeway make the northern boundary, the freeway running along the creek valley with the Koonung Creek Trail beside it. A back lawn on that edge, running down towards the creek, should come with a note on how it drains. A clay pipe factory once stood on Springfield Road, since demolished, and the north-east corner along Joseph Street is light industrial. Koonung Reserve on Springfield Road carries the ovals, the cricket nets, the tennis and the soccer. The suburb had its start in the early 1960s, so a lawn laid with the house has had sixty years of cutting unless someone has relaid it; say if yours is new.
Blackburn North is City of Whitehorse. The council owns the strip between your fence and the kerb and describes regular mowing, weeding and litter pick-up by the resident as common practice; it plants the street trees and keeps them pruned. Grass on the strip needs no permit, anything else planted there does. The garden bin is an opt-in extra: a lime-green-lid FOGO bin costs $75.00 a year for the 140 L size or $99.50 for the 240 L in 2026-27 and is emptied every second week, on the week recycling stays in.
