Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Heathmont lawn

  • On the creek side of Canterbury Road, mention whether the back lawn is level or falls away toward the trail.
  • A fortnightly FOGO bin fills quickly in October. Say if you'd rather the mower took the clippings.
  • Tell the mower if the nature strip has a young council tree on it. Trimming around a stake is a different job.

Heathmont lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Heathmont?+

A 180 m² lawn in our model is $105-$150 for a standard cut. A block with a front lawn and a back one can measure above 180 m², and the bid you get is priced off your own block.

Can I do what I like with my nature strip in Heathmont?+

No. Maroondah owns it, you must keep it tidy, and any change needs council approval. If the council approves a planting, the ongoing maintenance is yours. Keeping the grass mown needs no approval.

Which week does the green bin go out in Heathmont?+

The lime-green-lid FOGO bin is collected fortnightly, on the alternate week to recycling; general waste is weekly. If yours still had a maroon lid, Maroondah changed them all to lime green from May 2023 and the bin now takes food scraps with the garden waste.

About Heathmont

Apples ran the district until between the wars. The first shop opened in 1923, the station on the Belgrave line in 1926 and the post office in 1929. Growth came after the war. The primary school opened in 1952, Ringwood Technical School in 1960 and Heathmont East primary in 1962; the count reached 8,787 by 2001. The suburb belonged to the City of Ringwood until December 1994, when it passed to Maroondah. Its name records the rising land here originally having heath or low shrub-like vegetation on it.

Canterbury Road runs through the centre past the station. Dandenong Creek is the southern boundary, with trails along it, and Mount Dandenong is in view from the shops. The land is about 113 m above sea level. Say which way your own lawn falls, and whether it drains or holds water after rain. Your listing is where that goes.

Maroondah City Council owns the nature strip between your boundary and the kerb and expects residents to keep it tidy. Changing it needs council approval, and once a planting is approved its ongoing upkeep is the owner's. The council plants thousands of nature strip trees a year. Garden and food waste go in the lime-green-lid FOGO bin, emptied fortnightly on the week recycling is not; general waste is weekly.
