Indigenous plants are preferred on strips, ground covers and low shrubs under 1 m and gravel toppings in place of grass are allowed, and artificial turf, hard paving, rocks over 7 mm, sleepers and irrigation are banned; no permit is mentioned. A residential collection must include all three bins. The lime-green-lid FOGO bin comes in 80, 120 or 240 L, is collected weekly, and is charged per bin at $143, $157 or $201 a year in 2026-27 on top of the $136 base charge; rubbish and recycling are fortnightly.

About Montrose

Rain is the fact to start from, and it shaped the trades: orchards, nurseries and cut flowers were the business of the late 1800s and early 1900s, partly because of the high rainfall.
