Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Malvern East lawn

  • On the creek side of the suburb a rear lawn may fall toward the Gardiners Creek Trail, and a falling lawn is trimmed along its low edge.
  • Stonnington's green bin is fortnightly and 120 L. A spring cut on a full-size block can fill it; tick clippings taken away if so.
  • Give the side gate width, or say if the driveway runs through to the back lawn.

Malvern East lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Malvern East?+

$115-$160 is where a single mow of 180 m² lands in Malvern East, going by the model. The outline of your own block on the aerial sets the bid, and a detached house with grass front and rear can measure above that.

What is the nature strip rule in Malvern East?+

Grass under 30 cm, alive or dead, kept that way by the owner and occupier under Stonnington's General Local Law 2018. Residents maintain the strip although the council owns the land; it is planted only by permit, and its trees are the council's. Add the strip when listing and it gets done with the lawn.

How often is the garden bin collected in Malvern East?+

Fortnightly, alternating with recycling; garbage is weekly. The green-lid FOGO bin is 120 L for a standalone home and costs $89 a year. If a fortnight's clippings will not fit, ask the mower to take them, or to mulch them back in.

About Malvern East

A War Service Homes estate of 1920 is marked by Villiers and Bretonneux Squares, and California bungalows and brick veneers are numerous. The schools trace the spread, Malvern primary in 1885, the Manning Road Catholic school in 1918, Lloyd Street Central in 1923, the Dandenong Road Catholic school in 1929 and Chadstone Park primary in 1953. Two tramlines, routes 3 and 5 today, reach about a third of the way in. By 2011, 63% of the dwellings were detached houses and about 20% flats, so most lawns here, on those figures, belong to a detached house; say whether yours runs front and back or front only.

Gardiners Creek and Wattletree Road are the northern boundary, Warrigal Road the eastern, Dandenong Road the southern and Tooronga Road the western. The creek valley holds numerous sports ovals and a public golf course, with the Gardiners Creek Trail along it; that is the low ground. Central Park is heritage protected, and Hedgeley Dene Gardens, Ardrie Gardens and the Urban Forest Reserve make up the rest of the open space. Chadstone Shopping Centre went up in 1957 on land Myer bought from the Convent of the Good Shepherd. If your back lawn runs down toward the creek, say how it drains, since the soil is not something a mower can read off the aerial.

City of Stonnington sets the rules. The General Local Law 2018 puts the nature strip among the land an owner and occupier must not let become unsightly, and grass, alive or dead, tops out at 30 cm. Residents maintain the strip although the land is the council's; planting it takes a permit, and the trees on it belong to the council. Stonnington's green-lid FOGO bin holds 120 L for a standalone home, costs $89 a year and is emptied every second week, the week recycling stays in, with garbage weekly. Decide when you list whether the clippings stay in the bin or leave with the mower.
