Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Eltham North lawn
- Say which council rates you pay. It changes what can be cut on the road reserve outside the fence.
- If the strip or the verge has native plantings, mark them. On the Nillumbik side those aren't to be touched.
- Bush edge at the back? Give the mown area and say whether you want the fine fuel raked off before summer.
Eltham North lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Eltham North?+
Our model prices a 180 m² Eltham North lawn at $105-$150 per visit. Green-wedge blocks with more grass than that quote on area, and a bush boundary adds trimming time.
Can I mow the road reserve outside my Eltham North house?+
On the Nillumbik side, an exotic-grass strip in an urban kerbed street may be mown, and fine fuels cleared from the reserve for fire safety, but indigenous vegetation must not be touched. On the Banyule side the resident keeps the strip neat and mown.
Is the garden bin weekly in Eltham North?+
Yes in both councils. Banyule's FOGO bin has been weekly since 4 July 2022. Nillumbik's green-lid bin is weekly too, 120 L as standard or 240 L as an upgrade, covered by the annual waste charge.
About Eltham North
Eltham North began as a rural extension of Eltham. The post office ran under the Eltham North name from about 1934 to 1966. The area was part of Heidelberg city until Diamond Valley Shire was formed in 1964, and a boundary change in 2001 moved the western edge from Ryans Road into St Helena. Population was 6,841 in 2011, a little down on the 2001 figure.
Diamond Creek is the eastern boundary with Eltham and was the old municipal line. The suburb is part of the green wedge, with bushland reserves throughout, and that is the fact that matters for a lawn: the road reserve outside a house may carry indigenous vegetation that must be left alone, and dry grass, leaves and bark are fire fuel.
The suburb is split between Banyule and Nillumbik. Banyule residents keep the strip neat and mown and get weekly FOGO, as they have since 4 July 2022. Nillumbik residents may mow an exotic-grass strip in an urban kerbed street and clear fine fuels from the road reserve for fire safety, must leave indigenous vegetation, and get a weekly green-lid bin, 120 L as standard, inside the $679.87 waste charge for 2025-26.
