Lawn mowing in Montmorency
The Montmorency Estate belonged to the merchant Stuart Donaldson in the 1840s and stayed small rural holdings until a township formed around the Presbyterian church of 1917, the primary school of 1922 and the Hurstbridge-line station of 1923. Electricity came in 1926.

Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Montmorency lawn
- Say if the back yard falls away toward the river parkland and whether the mower can get down the side to it.
- Weekly FOGO takes the lot. Choose 'clippings binned' unless you'd rather they were mulched back in.
- Tell the mower what the lawn is - couch, kikuyu or buffalo - and whether it's under trees. It sets the cut height.
Montmorency lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Montmorency?+
A 180 m² Montmorency lawn is $105-$150 per cut in our model. A block with front and back lawn sits near it; a sloping or heavily treed one goes a little over for the trimming.
Is the nature strip up to me in Montmorency?+
Yes. Banyule expects residents to keep the strip in front neat and tidy, and the council mows only where it's a hazard. It fits on the same listing as the lawn.
Does Banyule collect grass clippings every week?+
It does. The FOGO bin has been weekly since 4 July 2022, and it takes garden waste along with food scraps, so a Montmorency mow never has to wait for bin day.
About Montmorency
Orchards, dairying and poultry were the business until the town took over. The primary school opened with about 200 people around it, and the Catholic primary on Para Road followed in 1932. About 600 people lived here in 1950. Through the 1950s and 60s the population grew fivefold, and a shopping centre and factories came with it. The high school opened in 1969 and Montmorency South primary in 1973.
Parkland along the Plenty River forms the western edge of the suburb, and a back yard on that side can fall away toward it. Population was 8,131 in 2001 and 8,759 in 2011, across 3.8 square kilometres. The name came from a local farm, itself named for Montmorency in France, where Rousseau lived. Tell the mower about the slope and how the lawn drains; that matters more than the suburb name.
Banyule's rule is that residents keep the nature strip in front of their property neat and mown, and the council mows only hazards. Food and garden waste is collected weekly in the FOGO bin, and has been since 4 July 2022. Every clipping from a mow can go in it the same week.
