Lawn mowing in Briar Hill

Briar Hill sits a kilometre east of Greensborough with a hill rising to its north, possibly named for the tangled scrub that once covered it. The post office dates from 1 September 1924 and the school from 1927; housing growth followed Montmorency's in the 1950s and 60s.

Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Briar Hill lawn

  • On a hillside block the way from the front lawn to the back one is often a set of steps, and steps rule out the wide mower; the listing should say what the way is.
  • A lawn held up by a retaining wall needs its top edge trimmed by hand, so mention the wall and its height.
  • Clippings never wait here with a weekly bin; tick that option, or ask for them mulched in.

Briar Hill lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Briar Hill?+

A 180 m² lawn in Briar Hill comes out at $100-$145 on the guide. A block on the hill with a terraced front and a back lawn running down to the fence will draw bids at the top of that range, because the trimming takes longer than the mowing.

Whose job is the nature strip in Briar Hill?+

The resident's. Neat and tidy is Banyule's standard; the council itself cuts a strip only after it has turned into a hazard. Put the strip on the listing and it is cut with the front lawn.

Does the hill change how a Briar Hill lawn is mown?+

On the rise, yes. A lawn that falls away is cut across the slope and its low edge is trimmed, and a terrace with a wall is two small lawns rather than one. Tell the mower which levels there are and how they connect, and the bid will match the job.

About Briar Hill

A progress association agitated for the primary school in 1924 and got it in 1927. Sherbourne primary followed in 1971. Population tells the building story better than any date does. Briar Hill counted 526 people in 1947 and 1,252 in 1971, then 3,129 by 2001, so the streets kept filling through the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Parts of the suburb were once in the Shire of Diamond Valley and parts in the Shire of Eltham. All of it is Banyule now.

The one word on the ground is the hill to the north, the feature the suburb was named for. A block on the rise has a lawn that falls one way or the other, and a sloping back lawn means trimmer time along the lower fence rather than a straight run with the mower. There is a small shopping centre with the post office, a local hall and neighbourhood reserves among the streets. Put in the listing first whether your lawn is on the rise or on the flat below it, and whether the levels are joined by steps.

Banyule's nature strip rule is a short one. Neat and tidy is the resident's job; the council's own mowers turn up for a hazard and for nothing else. Banyule has emptied the food and garden bin weekly since 4 July 2022, so clippings from a Briar Hill mow are gone within the week. That matters in October, when the grass grows faster than a fortnightly bin could take.
