Lawn mowing in Templestowe

Templestowe was green belt until the 1970s - in many parts you could not subdivide below two hectares - and it still has the blocks to show for it, rolling gently down to the Yarra at Westerfolds and Candlebark parks.

Mowie hasn't opened Templestowe 3106 yet - suburbs switch on one cluster at a time as local mowers join. List your lawn now, free, and it is shown to the first local mowers before anyone else's; nothing is charged until a job is done and you've seen the photo.

Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Templestowe lawn

  • Big lawns: mowers with ride-ons quote much lower per square metre. List the whole area so they see it.
  • Long driveways and wide frontages: ask for the edges done - on a Templestowe block they run to 50 metres or more.
  • River-side blocks: leaf drop and kangaroo droppings are normal. A blow-down is part of every visit.

Templestowe lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Templestowe?+

Our model says $110-$155 a visit for 180 m². If yours is one of the big blocks left from the green-belt years, when many parts could not be subdivided below two hectares, list the full area: a ride-on quotes a large lawn at a much lower rate per square metre than the guide implies.

Do I mow the nature strip in Templestowe?+

Yes. Manningham does no proactive maintenance of nature strips and relies on residents to mow, weed, pick up litter and keep the strip level, stepping in only for a safety hazard. The trees on the strip are council's, and residents may not plant their own. List the strip with the lawn.

Which bin takes the clippings in Templestowe?+

Manningham's food and garden bin with the green lid, collected weekly since 3 July 2023; the red garbage and yellow recycling bins alternate fortnightly. It is the standard service for every residential waste customer, so a Templestowe mow leaves nothing to cart away.

About Templestowe

Templestowe lawns are large. The suburb was built out after the green-belt rules eased in the 1970s, and the houses of that era sit on blocks with a wide front lawn, a long driveway and a back yard that runs to a fence a long way from the house. Newer townhouses near the shops break the pattern, but the typical listing here is a big flat-to-gently-sloping lawn that a ride-on does in a fraction of the time a push mower would.

The soil is the good loam of the Yarra valley, the trees are mature, and couch, kikuyu and buffalo all do well depending on sun. Along the river the blocks back onto Westerfolds and Candlebark parks - Templestowe and Fitzsimmons reserves are the other named open space - and get kangaroos and leaf litter; the streets up toward Doncaster and Templestowe Lower are more ordinary.

City of Manningham does no proactive maintenance of nature strips. It relies on residents to mow, weed, pick up litter and keep the strip level, steps in only for a safety hazard, and owns the trees on the strip; anything planted there is to stay under 500 mm. Food and garden waste goes in the green-lid bin weekly. SmartBus 905 is the transport; the post office dates from 1860.
