ABN ✓ FoundingBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Watsonia lawn
- Say if the back yard slopes down from the house. A steep back lawn is trimmer work along the bottom fence.
- Autumn: ask for leaves blown off the lawn before it is mown. Mulching wet leaves into the grass smothers it.
- The weekly bin takes everything a mow produces. Choose 'clippings in the green bin' when you list.
Watsonia lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Watsonia?+
Around $100-$145 a visit for 180 m² of Watsonia lawn. If the back lawn slopes or the block sits under big trees, expect a little over that; a flat rectangle with clear side access sits in the middle of the range.
Is the nature strip my job in Watsonia?+
Yes. Banyule's rule is that the resident keeps the strip out the front neat and tidy, and the council mows only where a strip has become a hazard. Put it on your listing and it is cut with the lawn.
Which bin do the clippings go in?+
Banyule's FOGO bin, collected weekly since 4 July 2022. A mow's clippings and the autumn leaves both go in it, so there is no reason to pay a take-away fee in Watsonia; choose 'clippings in the green bin' when you list.
About Watsonia
The typical Watsonia house is post-war - 1940s to 60s - on a block that was generous by the standards of the time, with lawn out the front, a strip under a street tree and a back yard with room for a shed and a lemon tree. It is a small suburb, 2.4 square kilometres and about 5,000 people, and it is hillier than it looks from Greensborough Road: the streets toward Watsonia North and Yallambie rise, and back lawns slope.
The north-east's sedimentary soils drain better than the basalt to the west, and the tree cover is heavy, so buffalo and shade-tolerant lawns are common alongside the usual kikuyu and couch. Leaf drop in autumn and shade year-round are the things that shape a mowing visit here, and the blow-down of paths and driveways is not an optional extra.
Banyule's weekly food-and-garden collection means clippings go in the bin the same week, and the council expects residents to keep the strip out the front mown and neat. The library is in the shopping strip, and Loyola College has been here since 1980. The North East Link tunnel portal is being built at the Watsonia end, which is a lot of trucks and not much else for a homeowner.
