Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Watsonia North lawn

  • A back fence on the park boundary is worth a mention; a lawn edge against open reserve is trimmed, not mown against palings.
  • The year the house was built helps. Part of the suburb stayed Parade College land into the early 1980s, so the streets are not all the same age.
  • Banyule's weekly bin takes every clipping from a mow, so tick the bin option unless you want mulching instead.

Watsonia North lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Watsonia North?+

For 180 m² of lawn, Watsonia North's guide sits at $100-$145 per cut. Mowers bid on your block's measured lawn area, so a house with grass front and back draws quotes above the guide and a unit courtyard draws them under it.

Do I mow the nature strip in Watsonia North?+

Yes. Banyule's expectation is a neat and tidy strip kept by the resident, with the council cutting hazards only. List the strip alongside the lawn and one visit covers both.

Is Watsonia North handled the same as Watsonia?+

Same council and the same rules, but a separate suburb. The line has been Grimshaw Street since 2000, the Ring Road to the north and the Greensborough Highway to the east. List under Watsonia North so the mower knows which side of Grimshaw Street you are on.

About Watsonia North

The wider Watsonia district was surveyed for farm sale in 1838, got a railway in 1902 and waited until 1924 for a station, sold with the Grace Park Station Estate and named after Frank Watson. The wartime army camp went to the State Housing Commission for emergency housing, then back to the Army for National Service in 1952. Schools followed in a run, from a temporary primary in 1947 to a high school in 1962 and three more primaries by 1971. The Christian Brothers of Parade College held part of the residential land here until the early 1980s, so the houses are not all of one age.

Binnak Park is the one piece of open ground the histories name, running north to south from Cameron Parade to Binnak Drive with an oval and walking paths. Which way the land falls, and what the soil does after rain, they do not say, so that part of the listing is yours: whether the back fence meets the park, whether the lawn is on one level, and the side gate in centimetres. Anything under 70 cm takes a push mower and nothing bigger; from 95 cm the wide machine fits.

The council is Banyule; before that the suburb was in the Shire of Diamond Valley. The strip in front is the resident's to keep neat and tidy, and council crews cut one only once it counts as a hazard. The weekly food and garden collection dates from 4 July 2022, so a heavy spring cut never sits in the bin for a fortnight.
