About Craigieburn
The mowing here splits by decade. The 1970s-90s streets near the station have full blocks with established kikuyu and couch and the odd old fruit tree. Both are flat or gently sloping and open to the weather, and Craigieburn's weather is the thing: at around 200 metres with Mount Ridley to the north, it gets more wind, more frost and hotter northerlies than anywhere closer in.
That means new lawns dry out faster here than in Epping, and the fix is the same: a high cut in summer, deep watering when it is allowed, aeration in the second spring. Older lawns on the original streets are thick and easy. Merri Creek is the eastern edge, with its own shade and damp, and 15 km of trails run through the suburb; the rest is basalt plain and grassland.
