Glenroy's post-war brick homes sit on regular blocks with a front lawn, a nature strip and a back yard that has spent seventy years as some combination of lawn, vegie patch and shed. The grass is the north's kikuyu and couch on clay, established and dense, and it mows quickly. Unit developments on the old blocks are common, with shared driveways and courtyard lawns; say which lawn is yours when you list.

The creek sides matter. Streets backing onto Moonee Ponds Creek and the Merlynston Creek line stay damp longer after rain and get more shade; the rest of the suburb is flat and sunny. Glenroy, Jacana and Gowrie are the three stations, and the Northern Golf Club is the biggest patch of mown grass in the suburb.

City of Merri-bek does not maintain nature strips in front of private property - mowing, weeding, edging and litter are the resident's - and blowing clippings into the road or drain is a littering offence. The organics bin - light green lid, food scraps and garden waste - is emptied weekly on the normal collection day, and every home with a council waste service has one. The retail strip is at the station; Northern Memorial Park is the cemetery on the Fawkner side.
