Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Broadmeadows lawn

  • Flat, regular blocks: quotes tend to match the guide. A regular round brings it down.
  • Rentals: list as recurring so the lawn is done between tenants, not rescued before an inspection.
  • Full sun, no shade: couch and kikuyu cut a notch higher in summer keep their colour.

Broadmeadows lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Broadmeadows?+

Reckon on $100-$145 for a standard mow on 180 m² of lawn. Commission blocks are regular enough that quotes sit close to it.

Who has to mow the nature strip in Broadmeadows?+

The resident, under Hume's policy: regular mowing, edging, weeding and litter, with the council stepping in only for a hazard. Hume sets no grass height for strips; its 400 mm cap is for plantings. Add the strip to your listing and it is done in the same visit.

Can a tenant book a mower?+

Yes. Anyone with access to the lawn can list it; the mower leaves a photo and you pay when you have seen it.

About Broadmeadows

The Commission block is the Broadmeadows block: a flat rectangle with a front lawn, a nature strip, a concrete side path and a back yard. The 1950s houses and the 1970s ones differ in style but not much in lawn - kikuyu or couch on basalt clay, established, easy to mow, with the time going on edges and whatever has been planted since. Some streets have been renewed with townhouses on the old blocks, which brings courtyard-sized lawns into the mix.

The suburb is open and flat with Yuroke Creek running through, so shade is rare, the sun is full and couch does well. Summer northerlies dry lawns out quickly; a higher cut from December helps. Broadmeadows Central and the station are the centre; the old Ford plant next door in Campbellfield closed in 2016.

City of Hume: residents keep the nature strip mown, edged and weeded, the council steps in only to make a hazard safe, and the 400 mm in its guidelines is a cap on plantings rather than a grass height. Every household has had a fortnightly organics bin, bright green lid, food scraps and garden waste together, since July 2024. Rentals and public housing are a big share here, and a tenant can list a lawn as easily as an owner.
