About Gladstone Park
The land was cut into farm lots in 1842 and Gladstone's was the one that sold. The Gladstone Park Syndicate bought it in 1954, Stanhill collapsed in 1961, and the ten-year housing project started in 1966. Schools followed the houses between 1970 and 1976. The post office did not open until 4 February 1985. Most homes date from 1972 to 1975, and the Western Ring Road along the southern edge came in the mid-1990s.
Four roads and a valley box it in: Mickleham Road and the Tullamarine Freeway on the west, Broadmeadows Road north, the Western Ring Road south, and the Jacana Valley on the east. Moonee Ponds Creek runs down the Jacana Valley with wetlands and a trail. Five neighbourhood reserves sit at the edges of the housing, among them Elmhurst Park, Gladstone Park Reserve and Jack Ginifer Reserve. The whole suburb is 3.7 km².
Hume City Council's nature strip policy is plain. The resident mows, edges and weeds the strip on every frontage, and council only does works to make a hazard safe, replacing soil but not turf. Planted vegetation on a strip is capped at 400 mm for driver sight lines under the landscaping guidelines; grass has no figure. The green bin runs fortnightly with food and garden waste, in the week recycling doesn't go, and has come with the standard waste charge since 1 July 2024.
