Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Hadfield lawn

  • Clippings off the strip go in the lime-green bin, not the gutter. Merri-bek treats a swept-off strip as littering.
  • Ground near Merlynston Creek can stay soft after rain; a lawn that does is cut later in the week.
  • Give the nearest cross street off West Street or Sydney Road.

Hadfield lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Hadfield?+

180 m² of Hadfield lawn reads $100-$145 under the model, one visit. Your own block's aerial measurement sets the bid, and grass front and back on a post-war lot can push it above that.

Where do the clippings from a Hadfield nature strip go?+

The lime-green food and garden bin, collected weekly on your normal day. Merri-bek does not mow the strip for you, and clippings swept or blown into the gutter or the drain count as littering. A mower bags the strip clippings or leaves them mulched fine.

Why does my Hadfield lawn stay wet in winter?+

The suburb's roads were once quagmires and council built a retarding basin on Box Forest Road for the seepage, so damp ground has history here. Whether it applies to your lot is for you to say. A mower who knows will move the visit a day after heavy rain.

About Hadfield

Development came after the Second World War, between Fawkner and Glenroy, inside West Street, South Street and Boundary Road, Sydney Road and Hilton Street. North Park primary opened in Exeter Street in 1964, the same year as Hadfield High, which ran until 1992 and whose site is now the Pascoe Vale Gardens retirement village. Fawkner station on the Upfield line lies inside Hadfield. The Fawkner Crematorium and Memorial Park at 1817 Sydney Road is on the Victorian Heritage Register. Shops are on West Street, the main strip, and on South, North and East streets. The name is Rupert Hadfield's, a president of Broadmeadows Shire Council.

Merlynston Creek runs through the suburb. Roads here were once prone to becoming quagmires, and a retarding basin was built on Box Forest Road to reduce water seepage; that is the history of the ground, not a report on your block. The lots are post-war, marketed from the late 1940s and finished, roads and all, by 1968. Tell the mower whether the low corner of the yard stays wet through winter and where the side access is.

The nature strip outside a Hadfield house is not something Merri-bek maintains. Mowing, weeding, edging and litter are the resident's, and blowing or sweeping the clippings into the road or the drain counts as littering. Council comes in only where a strip is a hazard, which its guidelines put at a surface more than 50 mm out of level with the kerb or footpath. The food and garden organics bin, lime-green lid, is emptied every week on the usual day, 120 L standard or 240 L, and is paid for through the waste charge on rates.
