Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Lyndhurst lawn

  • A back lawn reached through the house is a carry-through; one reached by a side gate depends on the gate, 70-95 cm being the standard.
  • A young lawn on a new estate block: ask for the high cut through the first two summers rather than a short one.
  • The Casey green bin goes out fortnightly; say if clippings go in it or leave on the trailer.

Lyndhurst lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Lyndhurst?+

A 180 m² Lyndhurst lawn runs to $100-$145 on our model, visit by visit. The mower quotes on your block's own aerial trace rather than the average, so a lawn smaller than that comes in under it.

Do I mow the nature strip in Lyndhurst?+

Yes. Casey owns the urban nature strips and leaves managing and maintaining them to the owner or occupier; it prunes the street trees itself every three years and gives no grass-height figure. List the strip and the same visit takes care of both.

How should a new Lyndhurst estate lawn be cut?+

High and often through its first two summers: 60-70 mm, taking no more than a third each time, so the roots go down before the turf is asked to cope with a January. A lawn laid years back, when the school moved to Marriott Waters in 2011 or the shopping centre opened in 2013, is past that stage; one laid last spring is not, so say which yours is.

About Lyndhurst

The Anglican school of 1854 became a state primary in 1888, the post office ran from 1 January 1867 to 1976, and a station on the South Gippsland line opened in 1888 and closed in 2002; Lynbrook or Merinda Park are the stations now. Urban growth started in the 1980s, when VicUrban created Lynbrook east of the railway. The modern housing is on the Casey side, inside the Urban Growth Boundary, and is nearly complete: Lyndhurst Primary moved to new buildings on a 3.5 ha site inside the Marriott Waters estate in 2011, and the Marriott Waters Shopping Centre opened in February 2013. The Greater Dandenong side, west of the Western Port Highway, is outside the boundary, semi rural, and part of the South Eastern green wedge.

A lawn laid when the estate went in and one laid last spring are different jobs, so say how old yours is. Through its first two summers a new lawn wants a high cut. Photos and the aerial measurement tell the mower most of the rest; add whether the block is on a corner, where the side gate is, and whether the back is lawn at all or mostly paving.

The council for the houses is Casey. It owns the nature strips but hands the upkeep of an urban strip to the owner or occupier, gives no figure for grass height, and deals with overgrown grass under its 2025 local law, in force from 2 March 2026. Council prunes the urban street trees on a 3-year cycle. The green-lid organics bin is emptied every second week and is standard at every residential property by 2026. West of the highway is green wedge, not estate streets.
