About Narre Warren
The settlement at the station lived on orchards and dairy farms. A school opened in Webb Street in 1889 and a mechanics' institute in 1891, and S.J. Webb planted an avenue of oaks along the Gippsland Road in 1890. The 1938 directory still listed an orchardists' coolstore and a blacksmith. Then Fountain Gate. Magid and Boyd laid the estate out on Radburn principles with linear parks, the shopping centre opened in 1970 and had 440 stores by 2012, and the Bunjil Place civic precinct followed in 2017. Population went from 538 in 1933 to 25,882 in 2011.
The parks sit on flood-retarding basins, and the hills are mostly north of the urban area. The population was 13,594 in 1991 and 25,882 twenty years later, so the streets are a mix of Fountain Gate-era housing and later infill. Narre Warren is City of Casey.
