About Hallam
A station opened on the Gippsland line in 1880, closed in the 1970s and later reopened. Dairying was the main business until the 1960s. Industry and housing spread out from Dandenong through the 1950s and 60s, a larger primary school opened north of the Princes Highway in 1963 and a secondary college in 1971, and by the late 1980s there were housing subdivisions in the north-west, the north-east and the south-east, with the Spring Square shops. The south-west is industrial. The population was 240 in 1921 and 10,162 in 2011.
Eumemmerring Creek and the Monash Freeway, opened here in 2003, form the northern boundary. The Princes Highway runs through the centre with the railway parallel to the south, and the whole suburb is 7.9 square kilometres. Endeavour Hills descends to level ground at Hallam, so Hallam is the level end of that fall. Red gum was milled here in the 1850s; whether any stand over your lawn now is for the listing to say.
