Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Caroline Springs lawn
- Ask for the cut left long from December rather than tidy and short.
- Planning to plant the strip out? Melton wants an application before anything but grass goes in.
- A browned-off lawn and an overgrown one are different jobs. Say which you have.
Caroline Springs lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Caroline Springs?+
About $100-$145 on a fortnightly round, for 180 m² of lawn. A browned-off lawn in January is a quick cut and an overgrown one in October is a first cut, so say which you have when you list.
Does Melton mow the nature strip?+
No, and it says so directly: the council does not carry out mowing or watering of nature strips. The resident maintains theirs, including levelling the surface so it is not a trip hazard.
Why does my lawn cook in January?+
Full sun on a dry plain. Raise the mower from December, water deeply rather than nightly, and accept some colour loss - it comes back.
About Caroline Springs
The land was treeless plain before the estate went in, and the ground it sits on takes only 500 to 700 millimetres of rain a year. A lawn cut short in December on country like that browns off inside a fortnight, and no amount of watering makes up for the height it lost.
So the summer routine runs the other way: leave more leaf on, water deeply rather than lightly and often, and let it grow away in autumn. Whole neighbourhoods went up together and reach the same point in the same month. The linear lake was made from the confluence of small streams, CS Square opened just north of Kororoit Creek in 2004, and the estate won the Urban Development Institute's award for Australia's best masterplanned community in 2006. Caroline Springs station opened in January 2017, physically in Ravenhall.
Caroline Springs is City of Melton, which is unusually blunt about the strip: the council does not mow or water nature strips, the resident maintains the one abutting their property, and anything other than grass on it needs a landscaping application first. Grass clippings go in the green-lid FOGO bin, collected fortnightly on the alternate week to recycling, at no extra charge.
