The housing is predominantly single-storey Victorian workers' cottages and Edwardian terraces, on 0.9 square kilometres of streets named for monarchs: Charles Street crosses Alfred, Edward, Henry, James, William, Victoria and Albert. On a cottage block the first thing a mower needs to know is the gate. Under 70 cm the mower is a push mower and nothing else. Seddon station opened on the 1859 railway in 1906 and Middle Footscray is the second station, on the Sunbury line; the main shops are on Victoria Street south of it, with only a few at Seddon station.
