Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Wyndham Vale lawn
- Long-neglected block? Ask for the first cut quoted separately, then a fortnightly round after it.
- Tell the mower which half you are in - the 1980s streets or a newer estate.
- Backing onto a floodway or a creek reserve is worth mentioning, especially if it holds water.
Wyndham Vale lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Wyndham Vale?+
Around $100 to $145 on a standard visit to 180 m² of lawn. A two-year-old estate lawn cut at 60-70 mm and a forty-year-old one are different jobs at the same size, so say which you have, and add the strip if you want it included.
Is the nature strip mine to mow in Wyndham Vale?+
Yes. Wyndham's Community Amenity Local Law 2023 asks the owner or occupier to keep the strip's grass under 30 cm; the council cuts only hazards, and long grass can be reported on 1300 023 411.
Why is my lawn so wet in winter?+
Basalt clay holds water for months. Let it dry a few days before it is cut, keep the blade high, and aerate in spring rather than fighting it in July.
About Wyndham Vale
Iramoo Primary opened in 1978, which dates the older half of the suburb: forty-year-old lawns on soil that has settled, thick with kikuyu and couch. The rest arrived in a second wave after the growth boundary moved in June 2012. Two streets apart you can be quoting a forty-year-old lawn or a two-year-old one, and they want different things - the old one a regular cut, the new one 60 to 70 millimetres of height until its roots are down.
Both sit on the same flat, open, largely treeless volcanic plain, which takes only 500 to 700 millimetres of rain a year, so summer is the hard season either way. Lollipop and Cherry creeks run through with linear parks along the floodways, and Presidents Park's ovals sit beside the Werribee River.
Wyndham City is the council, and it is direct about the strip: the resident mows it, the local law caps the grass at 30 cm, and the council cuts only hazards. Any tree the council or the developer planted on the strip is the council's to maintain, and damaging one is an offence under the same law. Wyndham Vale station opened on 21 June 2015.
