Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Balwyn North lawn
- Name the council on your rates notice; Boroondara's bin is weekly and included, Whitehorse's fortnightly and paid.
- Along the Glass Creek parks or down by Koonung Creek Reserve, say if the back lawn stays wet.
- Greythorn and Bellevue corner blocks can carry a strip along two streets, and both go in the quote if listed.
Balwyn North lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Balwyn North?+
$115-$160 a cut is what our model reads for a 180 m² lawn in Balwyn North. A block with grass at both ends of the house measures above that, and the bid is made on the aerial of yours.
Is the nature strip mine to mow in Balwyn North?+
On both sides of the council line, yes. Boroondara does no mowing, watering or spraying of strips and relies on residents mowing theirs; Whitehorse calls resident mowing common practice and plants and prunes the street trees. Add the strip to your listing and the mower does both together.
What is the low ground in Balwyn North?+
Two lines. Glass Creek formerly ran at the surface through the middle, and Jacka Street Reserve, Gordon Barnard Reserve, Hislop Park and Macleay Park sit along its old course; Koonung Creek is the northern valley, with the freeway and the trail in it. A lawn on either line is one to describe carefully.
About Balwyn North
The suburban expansion reached here in the 1940s and 1950s, and thousands of single dwelling houses went up across 8.9 square kilometres, more ground than Balwyn and Deepdene combined. Balwyn North primary opened in 1950, Greythorn post office in 1951, Greythorn primary in 1953 on about 2 ha, Boroondara Park primary and Balwyn High on Buchanan Avenue in 1954, Belle Vue primary in 1957. G.J. Coles opened the first Australian supermarket at Dickens Corner in 1961. The post office had begun on Burke Road in 1937 and moved to the Doncaster Road tram shops at Bulleen Road in 1941. The north-west is Bellevue and the east is Greythorn, on what was Towt's Road and then Whitethorn Road.
Glass Creek once ran at the surface across the middle, and a line of parks follows where it went: Jacka Street Reserve, Gordon Barnard Reserve, Hislop Park and Macleay Park. Leigh Park and Koonung Creek Reserve are the others, with the Koonung Creek Trail along the freeway on the northern edge, down in the valley. Greythorn Park was a wildlife sanctuary from 1938 to 1954. So there are two low lines through the suburb, the old Glass Creek course and the Koonung valley, and a lawn beside either is worth describing for drainage. The rest is the post-war build, and what a particular lawn does in February is for the listing.
Balwyn North has Boroondara for one part and Whitehorse for the other. Boroondara neither mows, waters nor sprays strips and expects residents to mow the one outside their place; its lime-green-lid FOGO bin takes clippings, leaves, weeds and branches to 75 mm and has been emptied weekly since 4 May 2020 under the waste levy on rates. On the Whitehorse side the mowing is likewise the resident's, called common practice, the council keeps the street trees, and the FOGO bin is opt-in, $75.00 or $99.50 a year in 2026-27, and fortnightly. Your rates notice settles which applies.
