Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Ivanhoe East lawn

  • On a Beauview estate block, say whether the back lawn falls toward the valley and whether a wall holds it.
  • Near the golf course or the river-side fields, say what lands on the lawn from over the fence; leaf and bark are a blow-down before the cut.
  • Old gardens hide old sprinkler heads, so flag anything in the lawn that a mower blade should miss.

Ivanhoe East lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Ivanhoe East?+

For 180 m² of grass, expect $110-$160. Bids are priced from the aerial trace of your lawn, so the figure moves with the block, and a river-bend lot with grass on three sides of the house moves it up.

What does Banyule expect of the nature strip in Ivanhoe East?+

Neat and tidy, kept that way by the resident. Council mowing is for hazards alone. Listing strip and lawn together gets both cut in one visit at a price that covers both.

Is there rock under Ivanhoe East lawns?+

Under one of them, at least. Charterisville was built about 1840 of sandstone quarried on its own site at 77 Burke Road. That is a fact about one house, not a rule for the suburb, so if your lawn dries quickly or a spade hits stone, put it in the listing.

About Ivanhoe East

David Charteris McArthur's Charterisville is called one of Victoria's earliest surviving houses. After his death in 1887 part of it was leased to Walter Withers and it became an artists' colony of the Heidelberg School. Ravenswood, an Italianate mansion at 40 Beauview Parade, went up from 1891 with views south over the Yarra valley, and the Snelleman coil house at 40 Keam Street is heritage-listed too. The state primary opened in 1926 and the Charteris estate was sold for subdivision in 1927. A.V. Jennings bought land in 1938 for the Beauview estate of 121 house blocks and 43 shop sites; building stopped when the Pacific War began in 1941 and finished in the 1950s.

The suburb is described as having no shortage of trees and parkland, with large blocks, waterways and hilly vistas. The river gives the suburb its shape and its edges: sporting fields, a bowling club, a croquet club and a public golf course sit beside the Yarra, and Lower Heidelberg Road is the shopping strip. Charterisville's sandstone came out of its own ground, which says something about one site on Burke Road and nothing certain about yours. Whether your lawn sits shallow over rock, whether it falls toward the river and where the mower parks all belong on the listing.

Banyule is the council, and its position is that the household keeps the nature strip neat and tidy while council crews attend to hazards. Weekly food and garden collection began on 4 July 2022 and suits a suburb with this much tree cover, since the bin takes the leaf as well as the clippings. If a street tree stands on your strip, say whether its roots have lifted the grass; a mower runs a trimmer over roots rather than a blade.
