Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Nunawading lawn

  • Tell the mower which council you're in. A Manningham green bin is weekly; a Whitehorse one is fortnightly and only if you've opted in.
  • Blocks near Koonung Creek or Dandenong Creek: mention if the back lawn holds water so the mower brings the right gear.
  • If the lawn is in two levels, say so, and say how the mower gets between them.

Nunawading lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Nunawading?+

For a 180 m² lawn our model reads around $105-$155 each time. A block with grass at both ends of the house can measure above that, and the bid you get is built on your own block's measurement.

Whose nature strip is it in Nunawading?+

The council's land, your mowing. Whitehorse calls resident mowing, weeding and litter pick-up common practice; Manningham relies on the same community expectation and adds levelling the surface. Both keep the street trees. Neither mows it as a matter of course.

Which bin week applies in Nunawading?+

Whitehorse residents: fortnightly FOGO, alternating with recycling, and only with a paid supplementary bin. Manningham residents: weekly green-lid FOGO since 3 July 2023, garbage and recycling on alternate fortnights. Your rates notice tells you which you are.

About Nunawading

The Shire of Nunawading once ran from Box Hill to Vermont. Tunstall, named after an English pottery town, was the small place inside it: a station from 1886, a post office from 1889, and orchards after the brickworks. The name survives in Tunstall Park and Tunstall Square. After the war the orchards went under houses, with a high school in 1955, Nunawading South primary in 1958 and the Eastbridge migrant hostel open from 1950 to 1987. The civic centre dates from 1968. The City of Nunawading itself merged into Whitehorse on 15 December 1994, and the railway was lowered under a new station in 2010.

Koonung Creek bounds the old area on the north and Dandenong Creek on the east. There were brick and clay works at the crossroads in the 1870s, and the word numphawading is recorded as meaning a ceremonial ground or battlefield. Say what your own lawn does. A lawn that stays soft for days after rain is worth a sentence in the listing.

Most of the suburb is City of Whitehorse, which expects the resident to mow the nature strip and keeps the street trees itself, and which runs an opt-in fortnightly FOGO bin at $75.00 or $99.50 a year. The Manningham edge works differently: Manningham does no proactive strip maintenance either, but its green-lid food and garden bin has been weekly since 3 July 2023 and is part of the standard service. Which council you pay rates to decides your bin week.
