Lawn mowing in Donvale
Donvale is named for the two roads that border it, Doncaster Road and Springvale Road. It was a fruit-growing district with its own cool store in the 1930s, and the main run of houses followed the 1960s.

Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Donvale lawn
- West of Springvale Road is a standard block; east is acre plots, and there the mower needs to know how much of the acre is lawn.
- Beside the Mullum Mullum bush or Currawong Bush Park, say what lands on the lawn from over the fence; bark gets blown off before the cut.
- The green bin is weekly here. A big eastern lawn can fill one a week in October, so say if the rest should be mulched in or taken away.
Donvale lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Donvale?+
Donvale's guide figure is $110-$155, worked out for 180 m² of lawn. An acre plot east of Springvale Road is quoted on its mown grass, not its land area, so the traced lawn on your aerial is what sets the bid.
Who mows the nature strip in Donvale?+
The owner or resident, by the council's own account. Manningham's guide of 2023 says the council does no renovation or proactive strip maintenance and counts on the household, by established community expectation, for mowing, weeding, litter pick-up and levelling; the street trees stay the council's. A grass strip needs nothing else. Plantings need approval and stay under 500 mm.
Is an acre block in Donvale mown like a suburban lawn?+
Only the grass part of it is. Eastern Donvale is one-acre plots resembling Park Orchards, and how much of a plot like that is lawn is something only its owner can say. Trace the lawn on the aerial when you list; the price follows the grass, and a wide mower needs a way in of 95 cm or more.
About Donvale
The area was pieces of Doncaster, Warrandyte South and Ringwood North until the Donvale post office opened on 16 September 1929 and gave it a name of its own. A tuberculosis sanatorium had been established in 1910, an Anglican church in 1907, and the Carmelites built Whitefriars monastery about 1940. Houses that were not farmhouses appeared in the late 1930s, and the main expansion followed the 1960s. The schools date it: Whitefriars College 1961, Donvale High 1967, Donvale Primary 1968, Donvale Christian College 1975, Our Lady of the Pines 1978. The bowls club came in 1988, and the post office had closed in 1972.
The ground is elevated, with Springvale Road as the central dividing line and Mullum Mullum Creek along the southern boundary, where EastLink passes under the suburb in the Mullum Mullum tunnel and Hillcrest Reserve sits above it. The western quarter has standard residential blocks. The eastern section is one-acre plots of the Park Orchards kind, so which side of the road you are on says a lot about the size of the lawn. Linear parks and walking trails follow the creek, with Yarran Dheran bushland, Currawong Bush Park and Antonio Park along it and more bush around Mullum Mullum Stadium. Say which side of Springvale Road you are on and how much of the block is grass.
Donvale is in the City of Manningham. The council's Nature Strip Guide 2023 says it does not renovate or proactively maintain nature strips; it relies on the established expectation in the community that the property owner or resident looks after the strip, and that covers lawn mowing, weeding, litter collection and general levelling. Every tree on the strip stays the council's for the life of the tree, and approved plantings stay under 500 mm, 300 mm near intersections. The green-lid FOGO bin is emptied weekly, as it has been since 3 July 2023, and garbage and recycling are fortnightly on alternate weeks.
