Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Box Hill South lawn

  • The side of Gardiners Creek you are on, and whether the rear boundary meets the linear park, are the two things to add.
  • If the main lawn is at the back, say how the mower gets there and how wide the gate is.
  • Without an opt-in FOGO bin, choose clippings taken away; a fortnightly bin is a long wait in October.

Box Hill South lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Box Hill South?+

Our model gives $105-$155 per cut for a 180 m² lawn in Box Hill South. Bids are made against your own block as measured from the air, so the number moves with the block.

Who mows the nature strip in Box Hill South?+

The resident. Whitehorse owns the strip and plants the trees on it, but describes the mowing and weeding as something residents do as common practice. Put the strip in your listing; it is cut on the same trip.

Does the creek matter for my lawn in Box Hill South?+

It marks the low ground. Gardiners Creek crosses the suburb from north-east to south-west with a linear park along it, so blocks beside the reserve sit at the bottom of their streets. Whether yours holds water after rain is a question for the listing.

About Box Hill South

The Golf Links estate was subdivided in 1924 and Riversdale Heights in 1926; the primary school and the post office opened in 1927 and the Riversdale Road tram was extended to its Elgar Road terminus in 1928. Gwynton Park, a ten-room house of about 1907, is now the administration building of Kingswood College. After the war the rest filled in, including a Housing Commission estate, with the Wattle Park post office opening in December 1960 and Houston post office on Middleborough Road in October 1961. The Bowater Scott factory dates from 1960. So the streets are of two ages, 1920s and 1950s-60s, and a lawn here is either one or the other.

Gardiners Creek runs diagonally across the suburb from north-east to south-west, and a linear park with a walking trail follows it from Wembley Park through Box Hill Golf Course to Bennettswood Reserve near Deakin University. The creek is the low line through the middle. Which side of it your block sits on, and whether the back lawn runs down towards the reserve, is the first thing to put in a listing here. Wembley Park on Canterbury Road has the soccer, and the tennis club and the golf course are on Station Street. Tram 70 ends at Wattle Park on the western edge and there is no station.

City of Whitehorse is the council. Its position on the nature strip is that the land is council-owned but the resident mows, weeds and picks up litter on it as common practice, while the council plants and maintains the street trees; grass on the strip needs no permit, other plantings do. The lime-green-lid FOGO bin is not part of the rates: it is an opt-in supplementary bin, $75.00 for the 140 L size or $99.50 for the 240 L, per year in 2026-27, collected every second week, alternating with recycling.
