Lawn mowing in Knoxfield

Knoxfield was dairy country between Scoresby and Ferntree Gully until 1954, when John Barnes bought a 33-hectare dairy farm. The township was announced in 1957, the post office opened on 31 July 1961, and the name honours Sir George Hodges Knox, who held the seat of Scoresby from 1945 to 1960.

Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Knoxfield lawn

  • Name the estate or the nearest cross street: Carrington Park, Rosehill Street and Kathryn Road were laid out by different developers in the same decade.
  • A weekly green bin takes a spring cut whole. Tick clippings binned when you list, or ask for them mulched back in.
  • The Laird Smith estate around Kathryn Road was laid out low-density, so a lawn there can be larger than its neighbours'; trace the whole of it.

Knoxfield lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Knoxfield?+

Our model's figure for 180 m² of Knoxfield lawn: $100-$145 each cut. A 1960s block with a front and a back lawn can come in higher; the bid is worked out from what your own lawn measures, not from a suburb figure.

Who mows the nature strip in Knoxfield?+

The resident. Knox looks after the street trees and says every other landscaping or maintenance cost on the strip belongs to the resident; it fixes hazardous path edges but does not restore grass. Put the strip on the listing and the mower does both in one visit.

What is under a Knoxfield lawn?+

Dairy paddock until 1954, then the 1960s estates, with the low ground along Corhanwarrabul Creek on the southern boundary. Beyond that there is nothing to go on about the soil, so say what your lawn does after rain and whether it sits in shade.

About Knoxfield

The estates went in through the 1960s. Carrington Park was built around O'Conner Road, LJ Hooker developed Rosehill Street, and a smaller, low-density Laird Smith estate took in Kathryn Road. About 400 people lived here in 1963 and roughly 4,000 by 1970, and by the early 1980s houses covered most of the suburb, so nearly every street here was dairy paddock in the 1950s. Carrington Primary was formed in 1994 by merging the Knoxfield and Scoresby Heights schools, and Knox Shire itself dates from 1963, cut out of the Fern Tree Gully Shire.

Corhanwarrabul Creek is the southern boundary, south of Ferntree Gully Road, with Burwood Highway near the northern edge and Scoresby Road between them. Open space runs to sports ovals, a lake and reserves along Ferntree Gully Road, Gilbert Reserve for softball and baseball, R.D. Egan-Lee Reserve for soccer and walkers, Carrington Park with the leisure centre, the Knox Athletics Track and the Ferny Creek Trail. Beyond the creek line there is nothing to go on about the ground under a Knoxfield lawn. If your back lawn lies low toward Corhanwarrabul Creek and holds water after a wet week, that is the sentence to put in the listing.

Knox City Council is the council. It plants the street trees and keeps them, and puts every other cost of the nature strip on the resident, and it will not put grass back on a strip that has worn bare. Anything planted on the strip must stay under 500 mm and trees are out. Clippings go in the FOGO bin, green lid, which has been emptied weekly since 3 July 2023 with rubbish fortnightly; one 240 L FOGO bin is covered by the 2025-26 residential waste charge of $434.55 and a second costs $150.25 a year.
