About Rowville
European settlement dates from 1838, and the Row family's Stamford Park homestead of 1882 gave the suburb its name. A post office ran from 1902 to 1905, and again later, before reopening at Stud Park in 1989. A 1942 military camp became the electricity terminal station. Churchill National Park was set aside in 1938 and declared in 1944, a drive-in opened on Stud Road in 1956, and Waverley Golf Club laid its course in 1963. The turn came with a 1958 scheme, £2 million and 700 acres, that produced Wellington Park in 1959-60 and Twin Views in 1961 on larger allotments.
Woodview came in 1976, then Rowville Lakes with more than 1,500 homes and Park Ridge with about 1,000 houses, then Timbertop, Turramurra, Sovereign Hill, Tirhatuan Hills, Rowville Heights, Studwell Park and Peppertree Hill through the 1980s and 90s, and Sovereign Manors, Sovereign Crest and Waterford Valley Lakes in the 2000s. Rowville primary opened in 1973 and four more schools between 1990 and 1993; Stud Park and the Scoresby industrial park date from 1986-89. EastLink was built through the Dandenong Creek floodplain in 2008.
