Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Upper Ferntree Gully lawn

  • The Yarra Ranges FOGO bin is charged by its size, 80 to 240 L, and the Knox one is a 240 L inside the charge, so the side of the boundary you pay rates on matters.
  • Backing onto Ferntree Gully Park? Say whether fern and bark litter reaches the lawn; it gets blown off before the cut.
  • The station is a terminus and the highway is the main road; give the nearest cross street off Burwood Highway so the mower can find the drive.

Upper Ferntree Gully lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Upper Ferntree Gully?+

Our model guides a 180 m² lawn in Upper Ferntree Gully to $100-$145 for one visit. Gully blocks with steep edges and trimmer work tend to sit at the upper end, and the bid itself is drawn from your lawn's traced area.

Do I have to mow the nature strip in Upper Ferntree Gully?+

The council will not, on either side of the line. Knox's share is the street trees; every other strip cost is the resident's. Yarra Ranges has no such program on its side of the line; a single slash once a sightline or fire-hazard complaint has been confirmed is its limit. Add the strip to the listing.

Does the gully change how my lawn is mown?+

It can. Ferntree Creek runs up the gully between One Tree Hill and the station, and Ferny Creek has a retarding basin along it. Say where your block sits, which way the grass falls and whether the low end stays wet after rain; a wet lawn is cut later and lighter.

About Upper Ferntree Gully

Upper Ferntree Gully was farmland first and then a place people came to for the hills; up to at least the 1930s Melburnians holidayed in cottages here. Ferntree Gully Park, now inside the Dandenong Ranges National Park, holds the 1,000 Steps laid in memory of the Kokoda Trail. Two creeks run through, Ferntree Gully and Ferny, with a retarding basin along Ferny Creek. The suburb is 126 m up at its centre and 3 square kilometres in all. Coonara House on Willow Road is the oldest building, older than the Royal Hotel, and the council bought it with its land.

The gully follows Ferntree Creek, so where your block sits against the water matters: which side of it, and whether the lawn runs down toward the Ferny Creek retarding basin or up toward the park, is the fact a mower wants before the photo. Say how the back is reached, by a side path or only the drive. Kings Park carries the football, cricket, athletics and baseball, Talaskia Reserve the cricket and junior football, and the shops are mostly on Burwood Highway with Ferntree Plaza the largest.

Upper Ferntree Gully is Knox with a Yarra Ranges edge. Knox handles the street trees, gives every other nature strip cost to the resident and does not restore grass; its green-lid bin is emptied every week, a first 240 L bin covered by the $434.55 charge for 2025-26. On the Yarra Ranges side the council's line is that no program exists to mow the strip grass outside private property; its compulsory FOGO bin, lime-green lid, is weekly and charged by size: $143, $157 or $201 depending on whether it is 80, 120 or 240 L, plus $136 base for 2026-27.
