Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Mitcham lawn

  • Beside Antonio Park or Yarran Dheran, say if bark and leaf come over the fence. Eucalypt litter on a lawn is a blow-down job first.
  • Clay is documented here. If your lawn stays wet through winter, say so; a mower will bring a lighter machine or wait a day.
  • Fortnightly bin: a spring cut can fill a 240 L FOGO in one go. Ask for clippings mulched back in or taken away.

Mitcham lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Mitcham?+

A 180 m² Mitcham lawn is $105 to $155 a mow in our model. Bids come off the aerial measurement of your own lawn, so a block with front and back lawn quotes above it and a unit courtyard under.

What does Whitehorse expect of my nature strip in Mitcham?+

Mowing, weeding and litter pick-up by the resident, which the council calls common practice; it plants and maintains the street trees, including the pruning around power lines. Keep it as grass and no permit is needed.

What is under a Mitcham lawn?+

Clay, suited to bricks and pottery: the tile works ran from 1886 to 1965. That is a note on the district, not your block. How your own lawn drains is for you to tell the mower when you list.

About Mitcham

Orchards, bricks and pottery were the early trades. William Slater's Mitcham Grove farm grew roses for perfume, the station opened on the Lilydale line in 1886, the Austral Park estate was marketed south of it in 1906, and the reservoir went in during 1923. Only 2,097 people lived here in 1933. Then the post-war expansion: a Catholic primary in 1959, Antonio Park primary and the high school in 1960, a technical school in 1965, Verdale primary in 1969. Eastlink opened in 2008 along the creek valley and the station went below ground in 2014. Earlier names were Air Hill and Emery's Hill.

The ground is clay suited to bricks and pottery, and the Australian Tessellated Tile Company worked it from 1886 until 1965. Along Mullum Mullum Creek the cover is eucalypt forest with a heath understorey, kept in Antonio Park (7 ha) and Yarran Dheran (7.2 ha). Whether your particular lawn sits on that clay, and how it drains, is for you to tell the mower.

City of Whitehorse holds the nature strip and describes resident mowing, weeding and litter pick-up as common practice, with the council planting and pruning the street trees. A grassed strip needs no permit. The garden bin is opt-in here: the lime-green-lid FOGO bin costs $75.00 (140 L) or $99.50 (240 L) a year in 2026-27 and is collected fortnightly, on the week the recycling stays in.
